What are some the thought's on Nurse's who always tend to come Late 10 to 15 minutes. How do feel about when you had already worked 12 hour shift...now another 15 min?
Who isn't busy? That is not an excuse. I've got two toddlers in the house. If your late, you didn't prepare or leave early enough. I manage to get my boys to the right places on time, dogs fed, showered and shaved, lunches packed, etc and still get to my destination on time (10 min early). If you leave home intending to walk in the door the minute you are supposed to, that leaves no time for flat tires, traffic, ect. Traffic delays are not an acceptable excuse for being late.
of course, one should always allow leeway for unforeseen circumstances.
But it's ridiculous to say that if you're not ten minutes early for your shift, you're late.
If my shift starts at 1030pm, and I punch in at 1030 on the dot, I'm still 100% on time. I personally tend not to cut it that close, but if someone accused me of being late just because I didn't punch in 10 min early, that's just dumb. You don't have to be 10 minutes early to be on time. On time is on time. Punching in at 1030p for a shift that's scheduled to begin at 1030 is, by definition, "on time".

I have been working in a nursing home, night shift, my shift ending at 5:45 am, 6:15, after giving report, passing off meds, etc. We have a nurse who, according to her, has made arrangements with management, to come in every day at 6:30-6:40 every day. Her excuse is that she shares a car with her father, and that she spoke to management, explaining that she couldn't work unless she came in at that time. Management complied; but we weren't aware of this arrangement. At first, she wouldn't call us to let us know she was late until 6:15, which would upset me even more, wondering if she was coming in or not. I have explained to her about having to deal with my kids, getting home late, etc, with no avail. We have written to management, with no solution. I come to work early every night, never calling sick, so this upsets me. Now when we have falls after my shift is officially over, I have to deal with it, while she comes in later. Now other morning nurses are doing this, not calling in, sometimes not showing up, and then we will have to beg other nurses to take report for us, which they don't like, some saying that they are not obligated to take extra halls under their care. Management won't come in to take over, stating that by the time they get to us, the nurse will come in. They pay us some compensation for staying, but I would rather get out on time. This happens 90% of the time. I have come to accept that I will have to deal with this until I find another job. Any advice?
