Laptop vs Tablet PC?

I have recently been accepted to an RN program and I need all of the advantages possible. I see that most students are using laptops, but is a tablet PC a viable option? Also, would it be advantageous to also have a PDA? And finally, what manufacturers are putting out a good product? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :typing
