  1. You may want to go to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing website and get in touch with them. Good luck! :typing
  2. I hope this doesn't offend too many people. This is aimed to those that feel there is a need for a nurse's union in Oklahoma and the southeast. For those that don't live in the south or southeast, you may not realize the cost of living here is not as high as it is in most of America. Personally, it sounds like you are insinuating that Oklahoman's and those in the Southeast are not in tune with the rest of the United States. We are in the business of helping people in need! What happens when the union comes to an impasse, do we go on strike? We aren't building cars! We have peoples lives at stake. Are you ready to go on strike when the Patient Care Technician's, that are over-worked, for 1/4 of the wage of an RN, and more than equally understaffed cannot fullfill the needs of the patients and we are asked to do their job. If you aren't ready to step up maybe you should enter a new career field. Have you ever heard of Florence Nightingale? Are you destitute? What were you looking for when you entered the career field. Maybe you have been working too much and have lost track of your original desire to help people. If you are over-worked, work less hours. I suggest that you use your resources available to improve your working conditions, and if that doesn't work go somewhere else or enter a new career field. By the way, should we bail out the automotive industry (UAW)?
  3. You would be better off to stay away from the word union. :angryfire Unions had a legitimate purpose in the past. The word union is now synonomous with "make me a lazy individual that complains about everything, and will not do something I have to do until someone else does what they have to do because it's not in our agreement." Unions have helped to destroy our nation. Look at the UAW and the automotive industry! I've seen too many nurses spending their shifts on their rear ends going through the circulars of the weekend newspapers. All I'm saying is that there was a time and place for unions and it's not now. There is a chain of command and that should be utilized. The op-ed section of the local newspaper or the local news media is a viable means of expressing your discrepancies. From my experience, under-staffing is one of the biggest issues, and this can lead to compromising patient safety. Also, by the nature of the industry if you aren't happy where you're at you can easily go somewhere else.
  4. sorry about your illness. part of nursing is patient teaching. it could be an opportunity to teach the teacher's, but only if you feel comfortable with the situation. otherwise, i feel that your supervisor's should do their job and include this in an upcoming in-service. there are many aspects of nursing that you can work in and not feel alienated. who know's better than someone that's been there! p.s. i'm not hiv+ but i can empathize!
  5. Does anyone have statistics for the TCC Nursing Program? I am interested specifically in the RN Program (not the LPN to RN program). How many students start the program and how many complete the program? How many drop out, how many fail and at what levels?
  6. Hey Man, that hurt! I'm 47 and just got accepted into an RN program. Sure, I wish I would have done it earlier but the opportunity did not present itself. I guess I may as well roll over and die! NOT!!! Actually I am making this an opportunity to change a few things in my life. This also includes my health. I've started to use my gym membership (my school also has excellent exercise facilities at all campuses). Now if I can get my brain to function at a higher rate I'll be doing fine. Have fun!
  7. Personally, I feel that convenience is verrrrry important. Figure out how much time, money, and stress that will be caused by that commute. I have just been accepted to the TCC program and have heard horror stories about it. Every program has horror stories (though I haven't heard any about the RSU program). It appears RSU has a very good first-time pass rate for the NCLEX. I have heard that RSU has one of the premier programs in NE Oklahoma. Consider yourself fortunate to be there in Claremore. Whatever your decision, good luck!
  8. I have recently been accepted to an RN program and I need all of the advantages possible. I see that most students are using laptops, but is a tablet PC a viable option? Also, would it be advantageous to also have a PDA? And finally, what manufacturers are putting out a good product? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :typing
