Nursing Students LPN-RN

Any one in this program? I am looking it to it as it is the cheapest option I have found... Seems a lot like excelsior with the exception on clinicals (how do they do them?)????

Nurse.Rendo, I thought I learned a few things. Thought the class was worth the time. I didn't like having to find a BSN. I thought we should have video'd with another person and sent that in but I passed. [email protected]

I work in home health, private duty. I did the program without any difficulties. One of the case managers in the office was my preceptor and it worked out well. So the school works well with home health. Just make sure you talk with your employer and see if they will let you do your clinicals and figure out how they want you to do them.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

They are redoing the program. I'd call & ask if you can do it at your place of employment or if you have to find a clinical site. I keep checking the website to see if they have all the info up yet & they don't. I'm (im)patiently waiting.

I just called the school spoke to Donna, she states thy r not taking applications at this time since the program is being reviewed thy wont kno anything till the 14th, so till then thy will post new info regarding the program on that date, on their website...

Does anyone know if they accept students that were unsuccessful st another college? I failed my exit hesi twice and now have to start all over. I was 8 1/2 months with my first attempt and 9 months with my second. I actually went into labor the day after my class ended. I am looking into finding an online program. Also I wonder if they would consider using my job, as a school nurse, for clinicals because each school has a limited amount of children with diagnoses that require skills

Update from Lamar State about the online program:

Good Morning,

You are receiving this letter because you’ve requested information about Lamar State College Port Arthur’s online nursing program. The program has been rewriting its policies and procedures this past year and we’ve awaited a chance to meet with the Board of Nursing to see if the new policies were sufficient for the program to be reopened.

In our meeting with the Board this month we were told that the Board will consider allowing the program to admit a traditional, on-campus class but they will not consider allowing us to admit any new students for any further online training at this time. The college will focus its efforts on admitting a local class (pending Board approval) and will approach the board to discuss resuming online classes again late in 2014.

I am sorry that this will affect your plans to join our college. I hope you great success with the alternative program you choose.

Melissa 13160,

How are clinicals done if a nurse is Home health. I am in the program and hope to start my clinicals on April 2014. I moved from Houston and have not been able to find a full time job in San Antonio I am getting worried.

Melissa, I think we got an email saying Home Health was just fine. Still had to have an RN preceptor tho. I searched and I must have deleted that email. We have to be off the clock while doing clinicals. I don't think they would find out if you weren't. Between my two jobs I have like 325 hours of vacation time and bills will be paid ahead soon! I need to get on the uniforms and money orders tomorrow. I too start clinicals in April provided I pass 2535. Russell
