I am sure you can find someone to help there. They are generally NOT nurses and yet have access to, or ARE LC's themselves. Best of luck.

Gee whiz, around here ALL of them are nurses if they desire to be employed on OB units...Otherwise, outreach programs and consulting areas employ laypeople...So, where ever YOU are Smiling Blue Eyes, it must be different than the area I am from....Learn something every day...:)

It must be....we have LC's who are well-trained outside the nursing-only arena.

smiling eyes do you work in a hospital that employs the lay LC or can you give me a name of a hospital in your area that does so

Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, WA (425)899-3000 uses 'lay' lactation consultants, but all of the lactation consultants are IBLBC certified and all have at least a bachelor's degree. The lactation consultant who saw me after my son was born had an M.Sc. in social work and and M.P.H. (master's in public health).

The job does pay well but again, I doubt you would be employable without at least a Bachelor's and some advanced training.

I believe every nurse on our unit are LC's. I haven't met one who isn't.

wow cheerio. NONE of us are LC's.. except our Lactation Consultant herself......at least we are not certified under IBCLC. THAT is amazing staffing----are you certified "baby friendly"? Just wondering!
