Laboure College nursing program

U.S.A. Massachusetts

I am starting the nursing program at Laboure College in the fall of 2015 and was hoping to hear people's opinions or reviews. Any input would be helpful. Thank you!

I took Fundamentals (1st of 4 nursing courses) in spring of 2015. I'm a single parent of 3 and I work full-time. I took the evening class because it worked best for my family. Clinical was on Saturdays from 7-7p.m. It was hard BUT not impossible. If you do your assigned readings, take great notes, and study...you'll be fine. I took fundamentals with Suzanne Karlson. A lot of people have not so nice things to say about her but I do not. She was extremely helpful to me. She was always available to meet with me when I needed help and always offered words of encouragement. I also took advantage of the tutors when I had a hard time understanding the content.

Advice: Refresh on your A&P prior to starting the nursing courses...it will make your life a whole lot easier. Prior to starting your first nursing course, you'll be provided a check list of items to be completed before you start. Get your shots, your physical, and whatever else is required. Don't procrastinate! People were asked to leave on the first day of class because they were incompliant.

Practice basic math if you're not comfortable with it because you'll need it for medication calculations fairly early on (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions and decimals) you'll need to know how to convert them from one to the other.

Kiss your social life good-bye….read, read, study, read some more, and study some more!!!

Good luck!

I'm happy to help in any way that I can.

Question about the math exam.. When do you take it & what exactly is on it?

Sorry I'm so late. You take the math exam within the first couple of weeks of starting Nursing 1000. It's basic math. (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions and decimals) you'll need to know how to convert them from one to the other. They are in the form of simple medication calculations.

For example: A client is ordered 50 mg of gentamicin (Garamycin) by IM injection. The drug is available in 20 mg/5 mL. How many mL should the nurse administer?

A)1.8 ml B)2 ml C)2.4 ml D)12.5 ml

What hospital did you do your clinicals?

anyone complete Laboure? how was your experience recently?

Hi guys! I have just been accepted into the Laboure Associate program. Can any of you share your experiences please? Thank you!!

Hi! when do you start? i start jan 2020

@petitekitt3n Hi! I start in 2020 as well!! I currently live in Florida right now and just got the acceptance this morning... so i am currently figuring out everything to make the move! Haha. What’s your background?

Hi there! i currently work at a hospital in Boston- graduated from Boston University a few years back! what about you? I am planning to work full time while going through schooling. let’s see how it goes. hahah i am also a mother of 2

@petitekitt3n good for you, that is awesome!!! Glad to hear you have an idea on your plan for that.. i need to figure that out, seeing it is pretty expensive.. I am a graduate from the University of Florida, just graduated in the Spring. I’m so nervous about this program, was hoping for an accelerated route, but i keep hearing good things about this one too. What do you think?

i hear mixed reviews unfortunately but i hear it’s gotten better. do you have to take a lot of classes or did your credits from university of Florida transfer over? luckily most of mine transferred over.. i took 3 online courses this semester (not through laboure). once i finish these courses, i only have to take 4 nursing courses through laboure before graduating. so it’s the fastest and less time consuming route option for me. even though it is expensive for the 4 nursing courses it is worth it for me since i plan to work full time so it has a good evening option

Yeah, that is what I’ve heard. They haven’t said anything about not accepting credits or accepting credits. Was this one of the first things they said to you? I guess I should contact them and ask. Which courses are the ones you need?
