See how you do in your mother/baby rotation in clinical. I hated it. I love babies, but zero interest in L&D. I wanted peds until I had a child go south quickly. It is very hard. Decided it was not for me.
Go into your clinicals with an open mind. You never know what you end up having an affinity to. Plus EVERYONE wants L&D. It's tough to get a job there.
It's something you're just going to have to find out for yourself.
My OB rotation had two kinds of students; those who went dewy eyed and gooey over "the miracle of life" and me, who said to everyone in earshot "If I have to palpate one more fundus, I'm gonna puke!"
Needless to say, that specialty was crossed off my list very quickly lol.
For personal reasons, I always wanted to work with families who were in the difficult position of a fetal demise or having a child with a life-limiting condition, and I did so as a volunteer for many years. I was a certified mental health professional and counselor who donated my time.
When I became a nurse I thought that L and D would be a natural fit for me.
I had the same reaction as JensMom. After what seemed like a million deliveries, it was off my list. Just so much nope.

Hi everyone I wanted to know is being a labor and delivery nurse a good choice of a career because my sister is a nurse but when she says she couldn't work in delivery because she wouldn't be able to control her emotions if a baby passes away. And that kind of scares me but I would love to delivery babies and just be present at a birth.
