Lab draws after IV start

Suppose you have a direct admit. You need to start an IV and draw labs, so you draw from the IV start.

I've been told that there is a correct order that labs need to be drawn in.

Can someone tell me what the order of the color of tubes are for the draw and why?

i was told to draw blues last off a picc or port because by then you will not have compromised the blood, because the line has been previously flushed with heparin per protocol but other then the blue top for coags i didnt know there was a certain order to draw cbllod....i always take 1 or 2 red discard tubes first and then start filling leaving the blue for last

Our labs recently sent around posters listing the draw order which is what subtle and babs0512 listed. Also they reminded us that all sample tubes need to be inverted several times immediately after drawing in order to mix the blood with the chemicals in the tubes. They even listed the number of inversions for each tube type which is different. Unfortunately I haven't got that memorized yet.
