L&D Rn moving to Texas, wages to expect?

Published

Hey all....

I am uprooting my family from souther coastal Oregon to the Fort Worth area. I am looking into what we can afford as far as housing and whatnot, with 6 kids I have to plan accordingly. I have 3 years L&D/antepartum/postpartum and my Associates degree. What kind of ballpark wages can I expect and do most hospitals offer either shift differentials or relocation/sign-on allowances?

Thanks in advance,

Hello, and welcome to Texas!

Since the Fort Worth area is already flooded with experienced nurses due to the current economic situation, I seriously doubt that any of the local hospitals will be offering relocation assistance and sign-on bonuses to nurses from out of the area unless your skills are highly specialized and sought after. After all, why pay for these pricey enticements when nurses from the local job pool will happily accept a hospital job without them? The sign-on bonuses and relocation assistance perks began drying up sometime after the Wall Street financial meltdown of '08.

The Fort Worth area hospitals will pay an RN with an associates degree and three years of hospital experience anywhere from $27 to $33 hourly. This is a lower-paying area for nurses due to the cost of living and the numerous nursing schools in and around D/FW. Good luck to you!
