L&D NA/PCA What do I need to know?

Nursing Students Technicians

Published

Got a job for a L&D unit and I'm both nervous and excited because I'm so far going to be the only one on the unit at this time. They wanted to explore what a NA or tech could do for the unit. I will have training and shadowing time with the nurses and the NAs in another portion of the unit, but I would love to hear from anyone who has a few tips. I want to be the best NA I can and really don't want to discourage them from having NAs in the future.

Specializes in OB.

In my hospital the techs on L&D are not only CNA's but scrub tech's as well since we scrub during c-sections. On mother baby the CNA's will do mom's b/p, feed babies in nursery, escort babies to and from nursery, help mom's with peri care after surgery, escort mom to NICU if needed, stock, prepare bassinets, etc.
