Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Advanced Entry (BSN-AE)

Published

Hello!

I will be starting the AE-BSN at KPU, and was wondering what the curriculum sort of looked like. I looked at the course descriptions, and it seems like most of them are delivered online however how many times would be the approx. expected amount to be in person (I live a little further out and was curious as to what my commute would be looking like). And also just any more info would be much appreciated on what to expect! Thank you so much!!

Hi there! I was wondering what your GPA was in university and how difficult it was to get in? I'm applying for Fall 2025 entry and I am so nervous

Hey! So I actually had a 3.8 GPA, but I know someone who got in with a 2.67.So don't be nervous, you got this! 🙂

Aww thank you so much! That makes me feel better, there's a fall and Spring acceptance, correct?

Hi! I am entering the 5th semester in the program. Let me know if anyone has questions. For the first 3 semesters, there is a lab on campus, which could be about a week long but also clinical in the lower lowermainland.

How often do you have to be on campus per week/what is the general GPA acceptance rate?

You are only on-site during lab, semester 1 about a week and a half, semester 2, 4 days and semester 3, 2.5 weeks, but is broken up by week during the term. Semester 4, 4 days. Not sure what the general GPA but as long as you have the minimum requirements and get your documents in right away you will be accepted. It is first qualified  first accepted. Hope this helps!

Hey @Liisa444 BSc!

I think I remember seeing an older post of yours where you had previously taken BIOL235 at AU. I'm on the same journey you took back then now, and am looking to apply to KPU's program. Hopefully I'll be able to complete the course in time, but it definitely is a lot of detail.... How would you say the workload for KPU's AE compares to BIOL235?

Hi! I found Biol235 time-consuming. It took me nine months to complete, and I was not taking any other courses. I also found that course much more challenging than the nursing courses in the program. However, the program is also time-consuming. I wouldn't say it is hard, but working on five courses at once with weekly assignments due is time-consuming. It is very doable as long as you stay organized and have a schedule.

Hi! I just got accepted to the AE Nursing program for Fall 2025, and I have a few questions. I have a toddler, and I heard the course load can be quite heavy, so I'm a little intimidated and worried about balancing school with my toddler and working (I need to work at least once a week). I'm trying to prepare as much as possible before school starts, and I'd love to know if there's anything you wish you'd done to better prepare for school. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I graduated with a psychology degree, and it's been awhile since I took my bio pre-reqs. In the program, are we expected know the materials from the anatomy and physiology courses (which were the pre-reqs), or will the basic concepts be reviewed during the program?

Also, how are you finding the online platform? Do you feel like the school does a good job preparing you before the practicum?

Thank you so much in advance!! I really appreciate any advice you can offer 😄

Hi! Working once a day a week is doable. I would suggest being as organized as possible and having support with childcare. At the beginning of every semester, I write down every quiz, exam, project, assignment, and forum post that is due and put it into my large desk calendar. I treat the program like a full-time job and have my room set up for my schoolwork. I also have a psychology degree:) Anatomy and physiology help you understand the pathophysiology. A +P is an important foundation. Hard to learn about illness or disease if you don't understand the body in a homeostasis state.  You might want to review some videos on YouTube. To answer your question, no A + P will not be reviewed in the program as this is an accelerated program. It goes by fast!

To be honest, in the early semesters, I did not feel ready for practicum. However, you can book more lab time if you want to practice your skills. The program is overwhelming, so when you can get to clinical, it does not feel too bad. Be prepared to feel like you don't know anything, but as you progress through the program, you slowly build more confidence. Hope this helps!!

You are amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!
