I've been taking gen ed at KSU. It's ok, but the parking is extremely limited, which is a big hassle. If you take early am classes or week end--fri or sat, it's ok. If not plan to arrive 45 minutes early to find parking and walk. They have their own method of admitting to their nursing program, gpa of a few selected courses rather than overall gpa and from what I've heard you must have a gpa of 3.7 to get in.

Is that 3.7 overall or out of the 10 pre-reqs. they require? I've applied at KSU - I know they take the top 7 grades out of the 10 pre-requisites you have to complete before beginning their program and use that as their basis for evaluation. My 7 were 6 A's and 1 B. Avgs. to about a 3.8 I think. I wonder what my chances might be? Do you know anyone who has been through the process? If so, how many times did they have to apply to get accepted. I've also applied to No. Ga. They have had 800 applicants and will only accept 100. I've also applied to Brenau, even though the cost is really out of my league.
Any info on KSU you can provide would be helpful.
Thanks!
Lisa
Stay FAR, FAR away from North Gerogia. They are very disorganized to the poin that they had all of thier nursing students at the Dalonaga campus at the same time with no place to park. People were parking where ever, to the point that an instuctor was run down in the parking lot. I withdrew from their ASN program because the clinical sites are too far away, as in 75 miles. Which they lied about, I was told all clinical sites were within Wellstar, which is who I work for. There are also many other issues at N. Georgia, I won't take the time to elaborate, they sucked a bunch of people in, after they paid tuition told them they had to take other classes that semester, one had to take 3 gen eds along with the nursing courses and the drive to clinical sites. I could give you a list.
As for KSU, over all I like them. They are conviently located and they are working on the parking. I think they've had an explosion in enrollment and got cought with poor parking. The 3.7 is out of the 10 prereqs that you are referring to. If you have 7 that give you a 3.8 you should get in on your firt application. I've met a number of others who did not get in with 3.2 as so forth. They are retaking the classes they got Bs in to bring thier gpa up to get in, that's the only way to do it. They may get 800 applications, but that doesn't mean they meet the GPA. Also if you have all or the majority of the gen ed completed it should help.
Have a nice day:)

That is absolutely not true about North Georgia's Nursing program. I am almost through with my second semester, and have nothing but praise for the program. I also already have a bachelor's degree from another school, and I took nursing pre-requisites at yet another school in the Atlanta area - so I have a lot to compare it to. Yes, the whole nursing class was required to meet in Dahlonega for a TWO DAY nursing orientation! There was plenty of parking, and some idiot just happened to back over a nursing instructor's foot because they weren't paying attention while backing out of a space. I was in the parking lot when it happened! We have three sites: Dahlonega (which they do their clinicals there at a hospital IN Dahlonega and some choose to go to Gainesville - maybe a 30 minute drive!!), one in Gainesville where clinicals are done at Lanier Park and Northeast Georgia Medical Center (also IN Gainesville), and then we have the Wellstar Campus in Marietta and their clinicals are also right there in that area. The nursing curriculum is clear on their website as well as in the catalog - if people were required to take other classes, they should have already been aware of it. Lisa, I think you have the grades to get into North Georgia, and I would encourage you to consider it if you are accepted. I know most of our class (even people at our other sites) and everyone talks about how much they love North Georgia! Our professors are great and caring, and I feel that I have made some awesome friends in my class. We study together and support each other completely. I'm not so sure that the above poster didn't fail a check-off, medication exam, or had some other reason for "dropping" out of the program!

I am with Eagle Girl......I am graduating from NGCSU on May 7th and I have nothing but praise for the program. It is challenging no doubt but isn't that what nursing school is supposed to be? I also was at the main campus on the day of our orientation and there was plenty of parking available. Sounds like more to it from this poster to be honest with you. All programs have their ups and downs but I do not know any of my classmates that would have done it any other way. Many of my fellow classmates have prior Masters and Bachelors degrees! We are a well eduated group and have taken the challenges of nursing school head on and run with it. I am so proud of my school and will hold my head up high knowing I graduated from there.
As far as KSU, I have also heard nothing but great things!! I have a friend graduating from there this May as well. It is a great program. I have heard you need 7 A's in your pre-reqs in order to be accepted. I had a 4.0 going into nursing school but I needed to go the ADN route first for financial and family reasons. School choices are hard. My advice is apply everywhere and then choose after you get your letters. Floyd has a good program too. :-)
Thank you all for your responses. At this point, I'm just hoping to get accepted to ONE program, but am applying to 3, the third one being Brenau. I was supposedly accepted to No. GA last year, but was put on a wait list. The Nursing Admission's office said I was "high on the list" but didn't get a call before Aug. 16. I'm hoping my chances are better this year.
I have all the pre-reqs I need for the ASN program, and only lack 3 for the BSN program. The waiting is horrible, especially since I will only have a few classes to take next year if I don't get accepted into a nursing program - not even enough for a half-load.
Again, thank you all for your opinions - It helps to hear from some of you who are already there!
Gosh...the support is just overwhelming!! I'm sure the 2 dozen or so people who recieved $50 parking tickets for ot being in an actual space on that occasion would agree that the parking was inadequate.
As to the comments regarding instructors, I agree. All of them were super nice and supportive. I also agree that they have plenty of clinical sites in North Georgia. If you live in that area that's great. For those of us who live in Cobb and Paulding counties and were told our clinicals would be here, but were told after the fact that we would have to drive to gainsville or cumming it's not so great. For me it's a 75 mile drive to gainsville and more then 50 to cumming. And this is on top of the 35 mile drive to Egelston. Most likely none of the my second year clinicals would have been anywhere near me.
I do not appreciate being slammed because I have expressed my opinion. I also realize that for every horror story there's a success story.
Actually, you were not slammed for expressing your opinion. You were slammed for advising people to stay FAR, FAR away from a quality nursing program that frankly, most people absolutely love! I was accepted to three nursing programs. Before choosing NGCSU, I sat down with an actual nursing professor in her office and interviewed her at length about clinical sites, days, curriculum, etc. I'm now nearing the end of my first year, and there have been no surprises. I read your previous posts, and you even said that the hospital you work in doesn't have a large Labor/Delivery or Peds section and that is why you would have to drive somewhere else. Well, I'm going to have to drive next year too for the same reason, but I consider it to be a wonderful opportunity to get to work in one of the best pediatric hospitals in Atlanta - what a gift!! And you know what? I don't mind driving an hour for TWO days per week!! That is all we have - two days a week for clinicals and you dropped out of a great program for that??? It just doesn't make sense. This is the last comment I'm making about parking, because that is just petty for a two day orientation - there was a HUGE parking lot in front of the building, and we were also allowed to park in the "black" zones all over campus. However, when the parking lot in front of the building filled up, people chose to try to park "anywhere" because they were too darn lazy to walk up a hill to get to the nursing building!! You're right - for every "horror" story, there is a success story, but I don't consider parking and driving two days a week a horror story!
