Know any hosptials in Tx that will train you in a specialty?

You mean before or after you are a nursing school graduate? If you are a new grad, or experienced RN, you can apply for an internship in a specialy area at just about any of the larger hospitals. They range in length from 4 to 12 weeks usually. You usually have to commit to staying at the facility for a certain amount of time following the training.

I'm sure there are lots of internship programs, but the only one I know about is the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. The Methodist Healthcare System is awesome, and I know they pay new grads during the internship period.

My internship is at UT Southwestern and is 14 weeks long.

I will also be starting an internship at UT Southwestern. Are you starting on June 19? My internship is in cardiovascular ICU at St. Paul's- can't wait to start!

To let the original poster know - just graduated from an ADN program. This will be the first area of training as a new RN. So yes, you can have a hospital train you in a specialty area. I have a 1 year committment.

Scott and White Hospital is a huge teaching hospital in Temple, Texas. Do not know much about the programs (just entered school) but they offer several specialties...perioperative, Critical Care, Med/Surg, and NICU. According to the program flyers, you will train for 8-13 weeks and have a 1 year commitment to the hospital following the training with staff nurse pay. Parkland in Dallas will take you fresh out of the starting gate! The pay is not the highest, the hospital is not the prettiest, but the training is excellent. choose any specialty under the sun and it is sure to be one of the most intense training in the country. You will work, but you'll learn and see more at Parkland in 6 months than you learn some places in 3 years!

If you will be graduating with a BSN they have a 28 month Critical Care and Trauma Nurse Internship that grants Graduate school credit. New nurses rotate through Medical respiratory ICU, Coronary Care Unit, Surgical Trauma ICU, Neurosurgical ICU, Burn ICU, and Emergency Department. Parkland's ER and Burn ICU are legendary.

If you are graduting with an ADN or from a diploma program they will still discuss MULTIPLE training options in any specialty!

They are very open to training new nurses in the specialties of their choice and they do pay during the internship programs. And for whatever it's worth, we got notice today that Parkland nurses are in the process of receiving an hourly pay adjustment based on market pay....It's a nice one too!

I am an ADN graduate and completed my internship in the NICU in May of 2005. I love what I'm doing and even better, I love the people that I work with.....it's the best example of teamwork that I've ever seen!
