KNAP FEAR

Published

I think I'm going to have to do the KNAP program,(BON took 2.5yrs to respond to what I did 2.5 yrs ago) only thing is I was not planning on working in a couple months because of moving and getting married, and if I do work it will only be PRN. Do I have to have a FT job for the program or am I able to do the required things as a PRN nurse? I don't know what to do! Anybody know this answer? I'd appreciate any suggestions or experiences

Different BONs have different rules. It really depends. On your PRN description, I read PRN as a registry nurse. For CA, that's a no-no. Must be a regular employee, i.e. full-time or part-time "benefitted position". And, need at least six months of continued employment. No floating, no nights, and with a work-site monitor.

Care to define what KNAP is? And what state? Thanks.

State of Kansas. Kansas nurse assistance program. Thank you for your response!

You have to work as a nurse for something like 18 months while in the program. I am pretty sure you can work as needed as long as it's not as an agency or float nurse and you won't be able to pass narcs for the first six months. You also won't be able to work by yourself or do home health.

Once you get referred, you'll get a handbook and guidelines with your contract. The program directors are both pretty nice. I am not sure if they can give you info without an official referral but you might try just emailing them your question from a throwaway email account.
