Kent State Accelerated BSN Fall 2014

Published

Hey,

Is anyone else applying for the Accelerated BSN program at Kent State for the Fall of 2014? I am getting anxious as the deadline approaches for the application.

What is your average cumulative GPA and science GPA?

Specializes in ER, IICU, PCU, PACU, EMS.

Moved to the Ohio Nursing forum.

I also applied for fall 2014! I have a 3.5 in pre-reqs and 3.63 with a BS in Biology. How about you?

I have a 4.0 in prereqs and a 3.6 BA in Communicative Disorders. Are you from the area?

Graduated from the ABSN program in December 2013 and sat on the panel for applicant interviews during my last semester. I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has!

Thats nice of you to come back and answer questions and Congrats on graduating.Did you do the daytime,evening/weekend, or UH cohort? Can you tell me what the interviews consisted of(types of questions asked etc.)?

I browse the Ohio nursing forum every so often and was happy to see this topic!

I was in the daytime cohort which consisted of 30 students. We finished with 22 after all was said and done.

Typical interview was 2 professors/counselors/administrators and 2 current students interviewing each prospective interviewee. There were probably about 100+ students interviewing in 4-5 rooms set up with interview panels. I think they conduct a few more on Skype for out of state applicants.

Interview questions were fairly basic.

-tell us about yourself

-what do you know about the program

-what makes you prepared for this program

-tell us about a time where you faced adversity in school and how you overcame

I dont think any interviews took more than 15 minutes. Schedule early in the day because te first few great interviews and "absolute yes" students were used as benchmarks for everyone after.

Hi FlashRN,

I'm also applying for Fall 2014

Can you describe how exactly one may have an option of choosing their interview time? It seems as if one of the 2 days is to be already chosen for us ahead of time the week interviews will be scheduled if you lived in-state. How does one get leeway into choosing a time?

From the source I have we'll be told when our time will be the Monday before interviews.

Did I miss something?

Also, thanks very much for the interview insight, I was predicting a panel of 3 not 4.

FlashRN,

What was your prereq gpa and overall gpa going into the program?

I have a 4.0 in my science prereqs and then a 3.6 overall. I also have background in the medical field because my undergrad degree was in speech pathology. I am just so worried about getting in!!

@Nursingonthemove - I remember being asked to call and schedule a time after they requested the interview. They may have changed the policy because I know they have an increasing amount of applicants each year.

The program offers a "masters bridge program" where you can take a few graduate level classes - I think Nsg Communication and Informatics while everyone else takes a similar Bachelors level course. The program after mine was chosen specifically for applicants who wanted to get graduate credit. We had about 15 applicants with non-nursing masters degrees.

I had a 3.1 GPA after receiving my BS Nutrition degree from Kent. My science gpa was probably a 3.5? I don't really remember, but I did retake OChem and Human anatomy

Thank you for all of your help!
