U.S.A. Georgia

I just applied to Kennesaw State's program for Fall 2011. I thought it would be fun to do a roll call to see who else is out there beginning the waiting game!

Hello,

It has been very quiet on this thread since August, and I'm assuming it's because you all have been very busy studying...LOL!! My interview for the accelerated program is on 9/23. How is it going for everyone? Can someone in the accelerated program give me a snapshot of your class and study schedule? I' wish you all much luck!!

StarLite,

I just saw your post. We are very busy indeed. I am in the accelerated program. For your first semester you will take Holistic Nursing, Health Assessment and Pathophysiology (just like the traditional students), but you will also take Nursing Research. It is an intense program, so be prepared to study and devote plenty of time to each class.

Please feel free to ask any questions, and I'll answer them to the best of my ability. You all should start a Spring 2012 thread. There may be other students looking for some answers as well. :D

Thank you for your response. We actually have a couple Spring 2012 threads going. LOL!!

I got in for the accelerated program also. How much time do you dedicate per day to studying. Do you work at all? I have pretty much been preparing myself mentally to realize that I will basically be living on campus Monday through Friday. Is that a fair assessment?

congrats starlite1980!!

Wow that was a quick respond, I was thinking it will take awhile since you all are busy. Thanks for the response! Starlite we will definately take these infos to the Spring thread! LOL How are you preparing yourself mentally for nursing school? Lol I don't want to miss out on helpful tips you know...lol

Congratulations to all of you that got in. I started the semester with a job, but I honestly only work about an hour once every couple of weeks. Its almost not even worth it, but my job allows me to log hours from home. I would recommend not working. Your studies, especially in the accelerated program will take up a large amount of time. When you are not doing something for school, I recommend taking a few minutes for yourself and doing something that relieves stress for you. For example, I catch up on my Grey's Anatomy on Hulu if I get the time. It just gives me a few minutes of a mental break. Good luck to all of you!

Also, I would HIGHLY recommend getting involved in your Student Nurses Association. We will be doing a presentation at your orientation. Please consider getting involved as a committee member or even as your class representative. It is a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills and will look great on your resume. You will definitely need to do things to differentiate yourself when you are looking for a job after graduation. Everyone that was admitted to the program is smart, but you'll need more than that to land a job post-graduation. So, please...get involved!

Thanks QTQueen. Also, I wanted to know if there is any difference between taking NURS 4402 (Research) online vs. on campus. Is taking it on campus more beneficial? I have done research papers before for my first degree and am very familiar with APA formating. If anyone could answer, that would be great!

I am currently taking the Research class online. However, it is an enormous amount of busy work. I spend several hours doing the assignments for it each week. The pro is that I've made 100s on everything so far. That being said, I've heard from several students taking the lecture course that they don't have nearly as much work as we do, but I don't know how the grading is. If the grading in the lecture class is even a little better in a sense that you'd still get 90s, I'd take the lecture with less work and the 90s because at the end of the day, you still get an A. But, like I said, I'm not sure how the lecture professors grade. I will tell you that taking the online class requires time management, not waiting until the last minute on assignments and finding the time to get it all done. Savor your last moments! It will be here soon enough and you'll miss these days. :)

Thanks QTQueen,

can you give me a little more infomaiton about how the class is structured? I was under the impression that there was one major research assignment that need to be done the whole semester (I don't remember where I heard that from). What type of assignments do you have to do?

Maybe one of the on-campus classes only has one major project, but for the online class there are 1-2 group assignments per week. The group assignments are done individually, but you post them to the group forum and critique each others work/post discussion. Then, there are 3-5 individual assignments per week that you submit to the professor. You also have 2 papers that you have to write during the semester: and Evidence Based Practice paper and a Critique paper. However, for your Spring schedule, the professor for the online class is currently listed as TBA. So, you may not even end up with the same professor if you take it online.

Can some of you who were recently accepted to the accelerated program please tell me a few things? Overall GPA? Math & Sci GPA? 7 of 12 pre-req GPA? TEAS score? Other items you know they took into account that helped you get in? Were any of you accepted on your first time applying? Did anyone get in with an overall 3.3 GPA?

I am signed up to take the TEAS March 16. My overall GPA is 3.31, 5 Math & Sci is 4.0, and I have one more class to take for the 7 of 12 pre-reqs GPA and that will either by a 3.86 or a 3.71. Do you think my chances are okay? Any advice and wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

gtqueen, can you tell me what your GPAs were and TEAS score was and if you got in on your first application to the accelerated BSN program? I am applying for Spring 2013.

Overall 3.31

Math & Sci 4.0

7 of 12 will be 3.71 or 3.86

I am signed up to take TEAS on 3/16.

Thanks so much.

Nutrizun,

I got into the program on my first attempt with the following:

Overall: 3.18

Math/Science: 3.60

7 of 12: 3.88

TEAS: 90.7

The interview is also a large part of the process. I prepared extensively for my interview. As they were asking me questions, there was only 1 question that I had to come up with an answer on the spot. All of my other answers had been prepared ahead of time. I prepared answers for about 25 potential questions, and they asked me around 10.
