Keeping a full time job through Prenursing/ Nursing school???

Published

Hey guys! I live in Orange County, Ca (Dana Point) and I am currently working on my prerequisites for nursing school (early stages) and I have a full time job with random hours. Looking in the future getting all of my prereqs done getting busier and busier, I need a job that can be flexible and also be full time. Especially when I get into nursing school I REALLY have to figure it out. I am wondering what you all are doing as a job that you found flexible with your school hours and also had pay that kept you living comfortably. I am thinking of workings at a restaurant because I heard that they would be flexible with hours with school. Also too, if you live in here orange county area and your employer is hiring I would love to apply! Thank you guys!!!

I work in an office... My classes are all nights/weekends so I work all day and go to school all night

Specializes in Forensic Psych.

In my class people do one of two things: work in a hospital, or working in food service. Retail could also be a good option.

Specializes in Med-surg Telemetry, Leadership, Education.

I worked as a hospital CNA. Had a classmate who worked as a bartender. And another who was a heavy diesel mechanic.

Specializes in ER.

Finding a job in a hospital might be a good idea. This can actually help you in nursing school and may be a foot in the door to a job when you're done with school. One with 12hr shifts. 3 days would be full time. If you work fri Sat and sun you'd still have plenty of time to study, depending on when your classes are. I am in my second semester of nursing courses and just recently quit my job to focus on school. I also have 2 kids though and quit because I was failing. I passed med/surg I by 1 point... I am however planning to go back to work, this time part time or PRN. It will get harder. Once you get into nursing school you will need to be able to focus more than when you're doing pre-reqs. Your nursing advisors will tell you not to work. I suggest saving as much as you can now and if you do work during clinicals/nursing school, only work part time or pick up shifts when you know you can spare the time. Goodluck!!
