kaplan vs. Mark Klimek?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am trying to decide which NCLEX review course is the best to take.

Any feedback is appreciated.

If you have taken either Kaplan or Klimek review course what are your opinions? Or if you have heard anything about either.

Klimek is in late June, $285 (3 eight hour classes)

Kaplan $399 is early June (7 three hour classes)

Im probably not going to be able to take NCLEX till Sept. So I was just curious what everyone would recommend.

Thanks!!

How do I take Mark Klimek a second time if I have already paid? Do I just show up at the schedule session of my choice?

Copy the klimek books and do the kaplan course!!

The Klimek books are very helpful, however, Klimek is in it for one reason and one reason only, THE MONEY!!! After failing the test I have sent numerous emails trying to get into the next available review course. Because I was told that I could retake the course as many times as I liked, I believed that I could simply send an email requesting to be in the next review, this is not the case!! On my first attempt to email him, I quickly realized that the email address provided doesnt go to him but rather his secretary. She informed me that she would get back with me to let me know if there were any spaces in the next review. After that review had come and gone I attempted to send her another request for the next review, now that review has come and gone and still I have heard nothing. My advice to you is to copy the Klimek books from a friend and to take the Kaplan (money back guaranteed). This way if you fall into the 10% that doesnt pass the first time you are still covered.

Tell me when you figure this out, he seems to ignore you if you failed the first time..

Mark Klimek's course is spot on! He attends the open to the public meetings about putting the NCLEX together and he really understands what is necessary to pass and what is superfluous to study. All I studied was his workbook and his Q&A book. The best part was that I knew when the computer shut off that I had passed the NCLEX. I still had to wait for the results to confirm it, but at that moment I was so excited because I KNEW I had passed (waiting two weeks for the results wasn't so great because then the doubts started to come in, but I did pass on the first try like I said). So thank you Mark! A little background, because I do think it factors into this...I am an older student, I went through University of Cincinnati's accelerated program, and I do not overly stress out about tests. But I'm no genius...my overall grade point average was a 3.5 (curse you statistics and research!). Good luck to all who take the NCLEX!

Mark Klimek is definitely the better choice! Most of my graduating class took Kaplan and said they just answered thousands of questions over several days. I am so glad that wasn't me. I went to Mark's course in Dayton, May 2016; the tips and tricks he was teaching us were incredible to me. My girlfriend and I took the class together and I cannot tell you how many times we would just look at each other with big grins on our faces like we just discovered the Rosetta Stone of nursing or something haha Mark is a smart dude; the use of mnemonics and other memory aids helped me grasp concepts that I had long struggled with. My girlfriend and I both passed our NCLEX; we are official RNs. Life is good. Thank you Mark!!!

I am still in nursing school, but wanted to take the Mark Klimek class before taking med-surg because a friend said it would really help with that material. SO GLAD I DID! I used to hate acid-base and especially electrolyte imbalances...a big list of signs and symptoms that all sounded the same to me. Not anymore. After Klimek, I feel I can handle virtually any electrolyte or acid base question. He uses wonderful mnemonics, rhymes, and various teaching modalities (visual, auditory, and movement) to help you remember concepts and information in all of the major nursing areas. He focuses on principles, not on memorizing lists of information, so once you understand the principle, you can answer virtually any question on that topic with a high level of accuracy. His way of teaching prioritization is also amazing, and so helpful, since that's a huge part of nursing school exams and the NCLEX. Finally, he is pretty entertaining, so the 8 hr. sessions aren't as brutal as they sound. I definitely recommend him. It's just too bad that they don't teach this way in actual nursing school.

Klimek tells you on the first day of class that you need to save the receipt they give you if you want to come to any future sessions. So keep it in a safe place. His website will also indicate if upcoming sessions are open to "refreshers" or are for first-timers only.

I know this is old, a lot of people still wondering out there though. Klimek is an excellent review and you truly can't go wrong with his review. He breaks things down in what seems to be the perfect way in every subject. No "money back" guarantee but you can attend as a "refresher" as many times as you want as long as there is room, he is sort of a one man show of +40 years of experience and he is his own publisher so you know every lab value and protocol he covers is completely current. He also explains why things are tested the way the are and the reasoning for just about anything. He's a walking NCLEX encyclopedia.

I have friends that have done both and they said dollar to dollar and minute to minute that Klimek is much more valuable. They all four thought that the Kaplan was an overpriced set of guidelines that still truly demanded +100 raw study hours that they could have done on their own. If you want to do those hours and spend the same amount of money... take Mark's class ($285 w/ free refreshers) and get Lippincott's RN Passpoint ($185), then do practice NCLEX exams with skills you learned through Klimek's review.

I'm an RN at the Cleveland Clinic in an CVICU, I still use principles from Klimek's material every day and it has helped me on every test I've taken since. I wish I would have taken his class while I was in the early stages of nursing school! Hope this helps someone!!!

ItNurse review is much better and about the same price as Mark Klimek. I have heard his audio and read the notes and they were helpful but I had so much more success with the other review. I had failed the RN exam 3 times and the Itnurse was my saving grace. They stay involved after you take the exam, sending you tests and other things to keep your mind NCLEX engaged. Mark Klimek doesn't do that that I know of. I've heard he doesn't update his books, but I could be wrong. The Itnurse review is very up to date with their books. I passed on my 4th try. And it was because of that review. Good luck!
