Kaplan PCAT program vs ADN

Published

I am attending Kaplan right now going through the PCAT program as a step up to the RN program. I had planned to apply for the Sept 09 session and thought that going through PCAT it would give me an advantage, but from what I hear...it may not. They only accept 50 students and it all depends on your TEAS score AND past experience in the medical field. They require that you have at least 6 months hospital/medical experience, but the more the better.

My question to any Kaplan RN students, do you think staying in PCAT will help? I already have the required experience and I already passed the entrance test (not TEAS)so I was told that I could apply, but as I mentioned, I thought PCAT would give me a better foundation for the RN program. Now I am thinking about dropping out of PCAT and focusing all my energy on getting into the next RN Program. Can you give me any suggestions on this? Is the RN program extremely more difficult than PCAT? I am breezing through PCAT right now with a 3.98 GPA, so I really feel I can go right into RN. What do you think? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.:thankya:

I am an ADN student there now. When I applied a year or 2 ago.. Something like that.. They REQUIRED some sort of "experience" now they don't. I wouldn't suggest it b/c they're honestly out to get the money. Why blow another 6k or whatever it is.

Also, the Kaplan PCAT program just lost to a former PCAT student who felt she was ripped off by the program. Basically, Kaplan promises you get these certificates that you can use outside of being a CNA like phlebotomy or radiology...Anyhoo many former PCAT students including a few of my fellow ADN classmates got a share of the settlement.

Being a CNA helps a little bit, however, I would not waste the money on Kaplan's PCAT program.

I wouldn't have wasted the semester on getting my CNA if I didn't have to. :)

Hope it helps. Maybe I'll see you on campus :)

Thanks knem916, that post was quite a while ago. I have since quit the PCAT program and now I'm planning to apply to National University's BSN program. I wish I could have been in that settlement, because that is exactly how I felt after starting the program. After I complete my biology's (by Dec '09) I will be ready to apply to the BSN program. Good luck in your studies:)

And thanks for the info, maybe others will read it and think twice about getting into Kaplan.

Ok I am about to start the Asn program at Kaplan for March 11 I am so afraid with all the bad reviews I've been reading on here and everywhere else, I know some people they never satisfy with anything but for some reason I have not met anyone that graduated or in that program that says anything great about it please help
