Kaplan Nursing program!

There is a Kaplan program here in San Diego. We have many Kaplan students that were LVN's that are doing the LVN-Rn bridge at City College where I"m going and they seem like competent students. If you get your RN from Kaplan then you go to University of Phoenix to get your BSN. No other school will accept Kaplan. Kaplan also allows you to do your pre-requisites along with the nursing program so it really cuts time off and there isn't much of a wait time. In the end you get your RN :)

Thanks for the response!!!! so they have informed me at Kaplan that in order to get into the nursing program I need to first be a kaplan grad, at least have 6 months working in the med field, pass the TEAS and get at least a 24 on the SLE. So they suggessted that I do the CNA program which is a 2 month program and then work for 4 months then apply to the nursing program for sept 2010? Do you think that is a good path to take. Are you going into the RN program there. I think its weird that no other schools accept there prereqs and what not except university of pheonix, because I do want to get my BSN and eventually my Masters. UCSF has a masters program in which I can get my BSN from JFKU and then go into the masters program from there. I already have most of the preregs anyway from a comm college. But yes anyways whats you opinon on the program do you think its a good one? Thanks for your imput write back!

Kaplan is real good if you don't want to wait on a wait list for 3 years. At City College the students tell me that they were waitlisted for three years. That's okay if you don't have an associate degree and need to take all your classes because that gives you time to get them all done.

The LVN students that went to Kaplan did all their pre-reqs at the local community college so they could do the LVN-RN there.

I took a tour of the Kaplan campus on Balboa and thought it was beautiful. They had all new flat screen computers when the other campuses didn't.

I hope more people reply that are in the program so they could tell you what it is like. :)

No other school's accept their pre-req's because it is not WASC accredited. It's accredited by a career school type of accreditation. If you main goal is to get your BSN, then MSN and you do not want to do it at phoenix, maybe Kaplan is not a good choice for you. Other schools MAY take them, but there is no guarantee. But, if you just want your RN, then Kaplan is probably a good choice, because in the end an RN license is an RN license, everyone takes the same test.

I applied sometime around October/ November 2009, this year. I just found out that I was accepted into the Jan 2010 cohort this past week.

ATI has a great study guide for the teas. I bought it, plus the two online practice exams and I passed the TEAS with flying colors. It's a little bit on the pricey side, but ATI are the people who write the exam so the questions are similar as is the content for which they recommend you study. It's worth the price to pass the TEAS.

You can reapply for the May 2010 one, don't give up!

^ ok thanks i was wondering how many cohorts do they have for 2010 aside from jan and may 2010?/.. im actually looking into moving to a diff state just to go for it. Iwill give them a call back again hopefully i can make it to the may 2010. btw have you taken anatomy and phys 1&2 and or microbiology

They also do one in September 2010. I have not taken any of the Science, so I will be having to do it there. I took general bio for my degree, but since my degree is a non-science based one that was all I needed to graduate for that. All the other pre-reqs I have done.

oh nice.. i will try it again over there and give them a call this monday. i will try your advice on the ATI testing guide i beleive its about $120 dollars. Its mostly science that killed me during the teas test. My math specially english was perfect. So now i now what to do with my science

Oh no, it was more like $65. That includes the review guide and 2 online practice tests. Just buy it directly from the ATI website.
