Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam

Published

Has anyone taken the Kaplan nursing entrance exam? I previously took the net, and applied to the nursing program at Baker for entrance into the program for the fall. Unfortunately, I did not make the cut. I now have to take the Kaplan nursing entrance exam. I bought the Kaplan study guide; I have the barons, as well as the evolve, (for the HESI). With the net the composite score was based on math and reading comp only, a few science and no chemistry. This new Kaplan makes the net seem like a kindergarten entrance test. I can't seem to find any websites or threads specifically on what the Kaplan test actually is about, how it is scored, or any information pertaining to just the Kaplan test. Can anyone help? I will be taking this test in early October. Any information will be appreciated. :yeah:

What would be the best thing to use to prepare for the writing section of the test? Is the Kaplan book good for this section?

I took the test this week and I studied from the Kaplan Nursing Admission Test study book that I got at Barnes and Noble. The reading section was pretty easy. The writing section was annoying.

Hi I am beginning this fall 2010 the nursing program at baker, I have transfered 8 credits from UofM flint, nothing more, I am wondering what to expect because the school is set up on quarters, and those quarters last 10 weeks as opposed to 15 weeks like a semester at UofM, what I am wondering is just how intense will my science prerequisites be? I am taking Micro, A&P I, and SPK 201 Fall 2010, any info would be greatly appreciated

Blue eyed mommy I would like to talk to you I have some questions, I am a first time Baker student starting my prerequisites this fall 2010, and I know that its competitive, im just trying to get a handle on what to expect, I cant even get my class syallbi until the first day so I have no idea how much info they expect to cram into me over 10 weeks, if you could contact me I would greatly appreciate it I cannot figure out how to private people here

Ok im signed up for A&P, Micro, and SPK what should I expect? How intense will these classes be over a 10 week timeframe? 10 weeks is a short amount of time to cram alot of useful info into you, so I would love any suggestions info, I welcome questions anything. I get the impression from Baker Flint, that you get out of the school what you put in, I have been reading alot on this site about other experiences and how so many did not get in and thought it was a waste. I dont want to waste my time, I am college educated I have a BS in Biology from UofM Flint, and I really need a program that will lead to a job. Also, I want to make my application as ready as possible, so Im trying to find where to get my shots, immunizations, I tried thru the health dept, but they charge like 44 bucks for the Hep B vaccine series, and since im broke im on the Genesee County Health Plan. INfo please!!!!!!!!!!

I am a nursing student at Baker. It is so, so, so competitive. I don't know if you were told this or not, but transferring credits lowers your total score for entrance into the program.

My advice to you is to strive for perfection! When you do your presentations, do something that nobody else is doing, because I believe those instructors have an influence on who gets into the program, regardless of total score. And that oral communications class is NOT a blow-off class like some people think. At Baker, and I think this is true for any college, you will only get back what you put in.

The HBVaccines are RECOMMENDED--not needed for program entry or program retainment. If you can't afford those, don't worry about them. Just make sure you have your titers done and get whatever vaccines you need (according to your titer results) and then get those titers re-read about 6 weeks later. KEEP SEVERAL copies of your results. Get your two-step TB test done AFTER you take your Kaplan exam.

The nursing program at Baker is very tough to get into and I feel terrible for those who do not get in. But once you're in, it's a huge sigh of relief and a great sense of accomplishment.

If you see a student in an all white uniform, go ahead and stop them to ask them questions about the program, we don't mind, just as long as we're not late for something. Good luck with your endeavors; I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Sooo...did anyone else take the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Test? If so...what did you think about it? Can you offer any tips or advice?

I recently took the Kaplan exam. As a matter of fact, I took it on Oct. 29th. The study guide will prepare you for the exam with the exculsion of all the extra math they included. I must say I was very impressed at how easy the math section was. All fractions! That's it! The science is indeed the portion you want to study the most! Very, Very broad! There is no other way to prepare for the science other than, study to know each system like the back of your hand. Especially the hormones, heart and homeostasis...... The reading and writing is easy but tricky-So pay close attention! With that said, best of luck to you all. Score high!:coollook:

thanks to everyone who commented on this thread. :) i conquered the kaplan on oct 30th....and much of what everyone has written is a good assessment of the format of the test.

you can take a break when you feel ready, i would strongly suggest taking your break after the second test, before the writing portion!

overall i think the mystery of the test, especially because it is relatively new, is worse that the test itself! good luck to anyone who is taking the kaplan.....and i'm keeping my fingers crossed..hoping that my overall score in addition to my gpa/point system... will be sufficient to be accepted into the program for the spring of 2011......if you can see it, you can be it! :nurse:

Has anyone heard what the average score is for Clinton Township?? I asked the nursing office and got yelled at by the admin.

:confused:No kidding, I was going to go and ask the same thing. Thanks for saving me a trip.
