Kaiser Nurse BRN Probation

Published

Hi all, I have been a Kaiser staff nurse in Norcal for about 6 years now. I have a spotless record and many patient thank you notes and accolades, even a daisy award or two. In 2023 I was arrested for DUI which was reduced to wet reckless. I was speeding but there was no speeding ticket, no accident, no one got hurt, thank God. The conviction happened about a year ago and I notified my manager. Nothing happened. Recently I received an accusation from the BRN for unprofessional conduct. I hired an attorney and the board is recommending probation. No big deal. What I did was stupid, I can deal with probation. However, after talking with my union rep I am told that kaiser will simply fire me instead of letting me work through my probation. I have looked and can't find any policy that is clear on this. I have asked my union rep to dig deeper and get me some clear answers. I'm waiting to hear back from the rep. So now I have a lot of questions and serious decisions to make. My attorney tells me the board rarely ever deviates from their recommendation. I asked for a public reproval instead of probation because it wouldn't place any restrictions on my license.

I am curious if anyone here has been through this with Kaiser, knows anyone who has, or if anyone has any helpful information they'd care to share about what Kaiser does or has done in these situations. Thanks for any help!

Will have to see things play out at this point. In the future, don't bring personal matters to managers if they don't affect your job performance. Let the issue play out in the court system first, then contact an attorney to determine the next move.
