Kaiser clinics

Does anyone have experience working in a Kaiser clinic? What are the working conditions like, what do you like or dislike about working there, and how easy is it to transfer from working inpatient at Kaiser to outpatient/clinic ?I currently work in-patient and have not yet reached the 6-month mark but when I do I will be very ready to transfer. I am not liking inpatient care or working nights. I am not a new grad, btw.Thanks!

    I worked at Kaiser in med-surg/tele and hated it! I desperately tried to get in the clinic. Nearly impossible --everyone wants to get in the clinic, and they want you to have years of experience. I'd talk to one of the managers in the depts you are interested in. You might also offer to float there or pick up shifts there when another nurse wants pto. It can't hurt to try. Good luck. Also consider hospice. It's awesome.

    Are you doing hospice through Kaiser?

    Right now there a few ambulatory jobs open, but they are either on-call or short hour! I'm so desperate right now though .... and yes, I too work med-surg/tele.... and I hate it! LOL!

    No, i work for a different hospice. It's great work. I agree there are few ambulatory jobs open. I'd love to work per diem in endo or OP to get my foot in the door in case something happens in my current job. I'm always on the lookout because nursing has kept me a bit paranoid and afraid of being axed at any time. Med-surg was a nightmare for me. I'd only apply for a hospital position if there was nothing else available, mainly because i can't stand management. In my current hospice position, i am almost never in contact with management; i rarely have meetings to attend or co-workers to deal with; and i can reach the hospice MDs within minutes on their cell phonse. Go for hospice. It is so much better than med-surg. Hope you find a better position soon. Good luck.
