Just wondering...

U.S.A. Michigan

Is there any nurses that graduated from Baker college. I keep hearing about how hard it is to get into and I would like to hear some stories of the successful nursing grads from baker.

I heard it is a good program too....only thing is if you dont get in your credits WILL NOT transfer to another school. Baker credits are only valid at Baker college. So....if things do not work out, your credits are worthless and you just spent thousands of dollars on non-transferable credits. :-(

The AP 1, AP 2, Micro, and Comp 1 that are needed to apply to MCC transfer over (not cleanly hour per hour but they allow them) the ones that do not transfer are the higher science classes. If you transfer from Baker to MCC you are going to have to retake those anyways because MCC has them as part of the nursing program unlike Baker that have them as a pre-req.

All of the programs are hard to get into, MCC you can retake classes to get a higher grade whereas Baker docks you points for retakes.

MCC isn't the only place that accepts Baker's credits.... Wayne State, U of D, HFCC, and WCCCD do. The only problem is that Baker has a few pre-reqs that are classes taken once you get accepted to that specific schools program....like Pathophysiology or Pharmacology. Most schools (not just Baker) don't take other schools credits for classes that are in their nursing programs, so that can be a problem.

The other problem is most other schools require more basic classes like chemistry/organic chem/biology, and at Baker, you're not getting those. So if you were to transfer elsewhere, it's not that your credits don't go with you, it's just that you may have to take MORE classes to comply with that school's list of pre-reqs. (Hope all that made sense!)

Anyone else attending Baker Clinton Township??

Whats the average GPA that you had to get into the nursing program at baker college??

There are a bunch of different campuses within Baker, but I attend Clinton Township, and they just did their acceptance for Spring, and its out of a 24 point scale, and the lowest they accepted was a 23.7, which is the highest they've ever had. SOO, its not just your GPA they look at, its also your NET score, and wether you've transfered in more than 2 classes, and wether or not you've had to repeat classes. But you had to basically have all A's, maybe an A-'s or 2, out of 13 classes, plus not transfer in more than 2 classes or repeat AND get over an 80 on your NET to get in this last time around.

I had a 23.27, and was #55 (they take the top 40) out of 205. You get an extra point for re-applying, so hopefully I will get in this fall with a 24.27. And if I dont, Im giving up on nursing because this is taking entirely way too long to get accepted anywhere. My grades were mostly A's, I think 4 A-'s and a B+. Hope this helps you!

I go to OCC and there is a lady who is in my Anatomy class that insists all she needs is a B- to get into the nursing program at Baker. She is doing micro, A&P 1 + 2 at OCC and then transferring her credits. She said her daughter goes to Baker and it is way easier than OCC. That is not what I have heard, but since her daughter goes there she says she knows.

Yes, thats what they tell you. You're allowed to get as low as a B- in any of your pre-reqs, and you can still apply. But lets be honest. You're not getting in with grades that low. Not that they're even THAT low, but its a very, very competitive program. We're talking about 40 spots, with usually 200-250 applicants. Like I said, you couldn't even have any form of a B this last application period. I know, because I got denied, but have 3 friends that got in, and all had A's. You should tell that woman that woman what I said, because it seems as though Baker isn't truthful, and they lead people on. She's also going to lose a whole point for transferring in too many classes (you can only transfer 2 classes, which is usually 8 credits), so even if she was to get all A's, and get an 80 or better on her NET, the best she could apply with would be a 23 out of 24, and they haven't accepted a score that low in about a year or 2. I didn't find Baker to be any harder or easier than Macomb CC, and have a friend who went to Wayne that also goes to Baker, and she said its about the same. Good luck at OCC!
