Just wanted to say thanks

My mom was a CNA for thirteen years at a LTC facility. I remember asking her why she didn't go on to be a nurse (she understood that the LPNs and RN's had other vital job functions that they had to get done) and her reply was " I like the time I get to spend with my patients" She later went on the become an Activities Director and got to spend even more time with her patients doing various therapeutic activities with them on a daily basis . I didn't really understand what could be gained from spending vast amounts of time with strangers until I matured a little and went to work with her one day. I met one of her patients (he was a cancer patient and grew up in the same area that I did). I visited with this patient quite a bit; he didn't have any family. I later found out that he had passed away a while back. I still remember his name, face and laugh; we got to be pretty good buddies.

I think it is great that there are people in the world that are willing to give people like the aforementioned patient (and the ones that aren't quite as friendly) their time and care that may or may not have family that can't/wont just be with them. Just thinking back on all of the memories assures me that healthcare is where I need/want to be.

Thanks again,

Well, you certainly have the heart for it. The healthcare field needs people exactly like you.:heartbeat

Good for you and good for your Mom. There aren't enough people in the world who give a darn nowadays. Reading your post just makes me want to ace my Nurse Aide course and be a helper and companion and trusted friend to those who need us the most.

Hats off to you both!:heartbeat
