I just put in my packet with the USAR Army Nurse Corp! I'm excited but also (still) a little scared about the entire thing, but just can't NOT do it if I can.
Awaiting word on what comes next...MEPS...
45 and going for this! And on top of that my husband is in the USAR and probably leaving again early next year.
I just wanted to tell someone who might understand what I'm doing and why...a lot of my co-workers just don't get it.
Corvette Guy, thank you, and I will. If I get offered a commision, and I accept it, my TPU will be the 345 CSH, Jax, Florida, USAR. And, thank the good Lord, I don't ever have to return to that Meps again either, Whew! Thought it'd be much more organized and efficient than when I first processed back in the 80's, but sadly, no...Ah well.
Hello, yep, the wait, an-ti-ci-pa-tion is making me ... well, I've been working with my recruiter since early May, and from what he tells me even should the board approve my application for a commission, it will still be a few more months of rubber stamping through the senate and Army Resources before my orders are cut sending me to my first " battle drill " with my reserve unit. Hang in there... I just keep telling myself that the Army just don't give these things away to jus' any Joe Blow off the street.
As you are the originator of this thread, just wanted to say that I admire and respect your sense of duty and willingness to serve, need more out there like ya. And this is one ole RN that gets it... I'm prepared to serve ,if the Army will put up with me, that is! Ho Ho Ho.
Gen, you can take oath of office for your direct commission at the AHC Recruiting office. After my physical at MEPS I never went back to the MEPS.

Hmmm, wonder why he said it was back to Meps then? Oh well, for now I am just hoping to hear good news after the October board, (I think that its the 3rd or the 6th now).

Its okay really! Dont' worry at all. When I went through there were 16 women that round and many of the young women had no clue what to expect, I felt for them yet, it turned out just fine.
Feel free to pm me if you'd like one 40 year old female's version of it. Not a bad day at all and I think that they shot the women through real quick to keep us away from all the guys too, to keep things nice and quiet.

I just want to set the record straight regards to military speak. In the past, the one weekend a month a reservist spent on duty was called your drill weekend. However, within the past year the term was changed to battle assembly.
I can remember it took me several months to receive word on my direct commission application packet. Then, after I took oath for direct commission [at the AHC Recruiting station] it was three more months before I received my written military orders for TPU assignment to the 5501st USAH.
An old and true phrase exist in all military branches of service... hurry up & wait.

Are you coming into the ANC as a 66H [Med/Surg], or 66H8A [Critical Care RN]? There is a process, which is long and tedious, that can enable you to come into ANC as a critical care nurse based on your experience as a civilian critical care nurse. I hope your AHC Recruiter explained the application process regards to such? If not, please send me a PM and I'll explain in further detail... if you like.
Hello, thanks for your replies and information. Believe it or not, from Dec. 81 - Sep 86, I was a ole 91 Bravo in the SCARNG so I guess I was just mixing old and new terms to come up with " battle drill ", let's hope I get it straight before I embarass myself futher at my new TPU!
Also, yes, I'm coming in as a 66H8A due to my critical care background and my recruiter has already worked with my civie bosses to document the some 20,000 hours critical care experience I have accumulated thus far.
I must also say that my recruiter has been very thorough and up - front with me about the application process and the length of time it takes to move through it all. Working with him has thus far been a positive experience. From what he estimates, it will be at least Jan. 2007 before I first report for a weeken...oops... battle assembly.
