Just took the TEAS - trying to get into NGCSU

Published

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I have been working in Telecommunications and project management for 13 years. I was laid off last year and decided to try to be a nurse, something I've always wanted to do.

I'm applying to NGCSU's nursing program for Fall of 2010.

I'm just wondering what my real chances are.

I graduated in 1992 with a bachelors degree in Art Education. I have mostly B's and some A's on almost all core classes, except I have to take medical micro over because it's too old (I got a B back in 1987 as a freshman), and I still need to take A&P. I also took a vertebrate zoology class back in 1990 and got a B.

my Adjusted score is a 84.7 on my first attempt, I thought pretty good for someone who's been out of college since 1992.

I got a 95 on Reading, 87 on Math, 73 on Science and 86 on English. After taking the test I could probably pull up the science part by brushing up on chemistry.

Is this good enough or should I try to re-take it in December? Do they frown on taking it twice to improve your grade just a few points?

I know it's super competitive, but I have no idea what they actually base the critera on for acceptance. Since I'm getting older, waiting is becoming a harder option for me.

I've been wanting to do this for a few years, but I was trying to wait for my twins to get old enough, they are in 2nd grade this year.

Also, after you apply, do they interview you or have you do an essay, or is soley based on grades and TEAS alone?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hello, Congrats on passing your TEAS. I could really need you help with the English. You did brilliantly well. any tips would be welcomed thank u so much

Hi! I applied to NGCSU for 2010 as well. Just finished the TEAS last week. Scored 88.2%. A classmate that I talked to said that she scored 80% and her adviser told her not to worry about taking it again so I think you will be fine with your score (but check with your adviser just in case). From my understanding they just base admission on a point system. You get certain number of points for your GPA, TEAS score, pre-reqs you have completed. I haven't heard anything about an interview or essay. Good luck! We should be finding out who made it within the next few months!!!

I just finished my first semester of the nursing program at NGCSU. What I can tell you about acceptance is this: they mainly look at numbers - SAT scores, TEAS score, GRE. My TEAS score was 88 or 89; my SAT score (from 1997) was 1360; my GRE from my BA in English at a different school was 3.96 but I had taken courses at NGCSU when I first got out of high school that brought my GPA here down. The Registrar's Office hasn't ever actually finished converting it so I don't know what it actually is, but I think it hovers around 3.0.

One of my clinical partners said that they had almost 1,000 applicants for our program and they accepted less than 200 (we have 120 or 180 spread out over the 3 campuses, depending on who you ask), so it's definitely competitive, but you can see that my and your situations look fairly similar and I got in.

I will say that you don't have to have completed A/P or Med Micro before you start the program, but if you can do any of it first, it will simplify your life. Good luck and feel free to ask - me and them - if you have any questions. I can tell you from experience that it can be tough to get info from the folks at the school.
