Okay first I need to say after taking this test I feel like an idiot. Why? Well because it was reading and I did not even make the score I needed which was a 75% I got a 60%. Needless to say I guess I went in a bit too confident because I thought ,hey I know how to read I can do this. Not!
The reading comprehension is 48 questions and they give you 58 minutes. They give you these long passages and you not only have to read quickly but understand what you read and be able to answer the questions. This seems to be my weakness area. I read fine but did not retain what I read which makes me have to go back to the passage which takes up time. (I feel sorry for people who English is not their first language cause I can only imagine how difficult this portion will be). Any of you going into take the test know how to locate Topic, Main Point, Expository Detail and Conclusion quickly. This is what I will work on because I just could not pinpoint what the main points and expository details were. Like whatever I thought was the main point was not even one of the choices given to me. I think they should give at least 1.5 hours for the reading portion so that people can take their time and answer the questions correctly. Everyone reads at a different pace and when it comes to critical thinking I have to take my time, I don't want to rush just cause the clock is ticking. I called ATI and they said there is nothing they can do unless I have a documented disability.
I finished all 48 questions but did not have time to go back and check my answers. I am sure I would have gotten a higher score if I had that chance.
Anyway I am set to take the exam again but with all the parts which is Reading , English, Math and Science. I am going to study my butt off! One thing I did notice but did not help me since I did not study is that the questions were very similar to the ones in the book. Meaning the set ups were the same so I think practicing the problems in the book will help tremendously. Like I said I find it hard to retain info I read but I think the book gives pointers on what to look for while reading so that you don't have to be going back to look for the answer and waste time. The book I have is ATI TEAs version 5. I also have version 4 and I do not think that would have helped, looks like Version 5 is way more thorough and does a better job at explaining things. All this time I though Math would be my problem now I see Reading is an issue as well, heck they all may be issues, I just need to make sure I pass!

Ya I know exactly what you mean. I just youtubed a lot of the information and watched videos of teachers explaining how to pull the main idea, topic and supporting details out of the story. I took teas 4 two and a half years ago and the reading comprehension was not nearly as bad because I scored a 90% ( it was just basic comprehension tho nothing about the main idea and topic etc) on the TEAS 5 I scored like a 73%. The program mean for the entire test went down about 10% from Teas 4, so it did get more difficult. I thought it was somewhat challenging. Some people say its easy, but I disagree! Plus its been 5 years since I have taken any core science classes.

I feel you buddy ! I got the same problem ! I did poorly on Reading too ( 74%) ! Who said it's easy? not me ! lolz ! Actually the Reading is not too difficult, it's just not enough time ! should be extra 15 mins !

I can read, but I always have a hard time retaining, so when I am done reading, I forgot everything I read. So I need to practice too.

try reading the questions first before you read the passage.

Hi to All,
I am scheduled to take the TEAS V on August 31st. I feel like I have read the same thing over and over in the Science section and did a million math problems and I seriously feel like that when I do the practice online tests I do not know a thing!! I am a CMA with a two year degree- I graduated with honors and I cannot get why this is kicking my butt!! I feel like a lot of the science is above my head and I have always been bad at Math. I did really well on the reading and English but HOW are some of you guys getting 90s and above???? I need help and fast cause this is a one time shot for me. I have 2 boys and I really have to make it in for them. This is what I know I was meant to do. ANY help, advice, or study tips are GREATLY appreciated. Thank you all in advance!
