is it just me?

Is it just me, or does anyone elses pts decide to poop, vomit(after complete bedbath and linen change) or crash just as you are getting your ducks in order to give report for a "today, I will get out of here on time"? I as of late can't get out on time if a million bucks were offered to me. Oh, and "Yes, hi, I am Doctor blah blah and need the labs and consent so we can take him to....HUH, really again? What? you have a big bump where your IV is? I am in the middle of wrapping this shift up, or so I thought. Yeah I know, comes with the territory....I really would like to leave on time boss and am not just slacking or riding the clock..just a vent.*sigh*

Yes don't allow yourself to even think you're going to be out on time, jinxes me every time! :)

I swear, an hour before the end of the shift is when a patient decides that they want to leave, AMA or otherwise. It's like, "you couldn't ask your doctor about leaving when you saw him earlier?"

Your post made me laugh. That is the story of most of my shifts! Always something that throws me off of my stride too!

Even though I'm a PCA it seems that everyday at 7pm when the shifts change that's when all the patients want something that I can't get them.

They want all of their 345 medications that they take and because some of them were due 5 minutes ago want them NOW! The family members show up and want to know all about the patients tests, scans, bloodwork, surgery, sneezing patterns etc. Then the weird vitals start with crazy temps and sky high blood pressures. Oh and let's not forget about all the admissions showing up then too!

Kinda like when you wake up late, scurry around to beat it out the door on time and your bowels announce, "HI!!!! It's time to take me to the pool! Yes, right NOW!"

Laughed 'til I cried, this is so true.
