Just started my 2nd semester for the LVN program

Published

This semester I'm taking maternal/neonatal nursing, med surg, mental illness, advanced nursing skills (we get to learn how to pass meds, catheters, trach care, etc), and two days of clinical. For clinicals we're going to a mental hospital, a daycare and an LTAC for the last 5 weeks. This summer semester is only 12 weeks, but maternal/neonatal and advanced skills are 8 week classes to give us more time to study for med surg. I'm excited and nervous at the same time, especially for med surg. I'm in a 3 semester program that lasts one year.

Anyone else starting their second semester this summer or just want to share their experiences based on what I posted?

im in my second semester as well and I am taking medsurge, data collection, pharmacology and mental/geriatric nursing. my semester is 15 weeks and I find medsurge to be the most difficult. I take my hat off to you for taking that class in a shorter period.

I am also in a 3 semester program but I am in my last semester which is maternal/neonatal, pediatrics and geriatrics. My Medsurg was my 2nd semester. Im not going to lie or sugarcoat.....It is tough I cried a lot but I got through it. I did however get some supplemental books that has and still is helping me a lot. They are Med surg made incredibly easy, pediatric nursing made incredibly easy and maternal/neonatal made incredibly easy. These books breaks down the textbooks so much better it was a life saver. Good luck.

I just completed my second/last semester of the lpn. I wrote a blog regarding my entire experience and can email you the link to it. I really loved my block two clinicals. We did med/surg/peds. The hospital we went to, we floated around the entire thing, such as we went ER, surgery, endoscopy, as well as all the floors of the main hospital. For our peds we did our rotation at the public school with the school nurse. LTC /First block was torture for me, but i enjoyed second.

I am in a 3 semester/level program also, our whole 2nd semester/level is med surg and I am in my last semester/level and that is maternity/ped's, management, mental health and one or two classes of med surg (endo and integ).

Med/Surg was ridiculously hard. I passed by the skin of my teeth, but that was because I kind of slacked that second semester because I was in my first trimester of my pregnancy. Only advice I have is make sure you eat your breakfast and drink your coffee when you have med surg classes and study study study. Good luck.
