 I work in the mortgage field right now, and have thought about nursing for a long time, just scared to make that jump into the unknown. NE Tech in Pryor has an RN program that I am a few points shy of getting accepted, so will need to take medical term, and get my CPR, no biggee.

I DON"T have my LPN. I am trying to figure out if this is a detriment going into the nursing field. Also, trying to figure out if it is best for me to get my CNA in 2-4 weeks and work as a CNA while going to nursing school. I KNOW it will be hard.

So 2nd thing.......Are online degrees legit?? and will any 'good' job be willing to accept someone with an online nursing degree???

There it is. that is all. I am leaving my job for good on Sept 15th. Scared to death. Need to get going on this.

Thank you all so much for your input.

I'm also in Oklahoma and I also left the business field for the nursing field. I have no experience in nursing, no CNA certification, no LPN training. I started my first week of nursing school last week and am loving it! I don't have any advice on the online classes. I did most of my business degree online, but that's a whole different ballgame than an RN degree online. I think it would be better to do nursing school in an actual traditional classroom setting. I think it would be very difficult to do online with no medical background.

Where are you attending that you went straight into the RN program??? I don't have my associates yet, and lack only a few hours. AAARRRGGGHHH, if I call a school to ask questions.....it seems all about recruiting. i need someone to lay it out for me and say, You need to do this, this and this, then you can start the program. I work high stress now, and am able to handle the workload, I believe. I am not normally a person that needs thier hand held, but so overwhelmed right now. Probably because I am working in Dallas right now during the week, and only home on the weekends. Missin MDH and Kiddos.

I'm attending NOC. I had no medical experience with direct patient care. When I graduated high school I was a pre-nursing major but changed majors after a year or so of pre-reqs. The only medical experience I had prior to this was being an office coordinator at a hospital. But it was mostly secretarial type things. You need to call directly to the nursing office instead of recruitment. Either go to a schools website and find the nursing offices number directly, or call the general line and ask for the nursing department. A lot of the girls in my class have no experience. One was a stay at home mom, one was a student at a university in another state and was transfered here with her husband in the airforce, one was an elementary teacher, etc. It's not impossible to get in without experience depending on where you apply.

So, u didn't have a degree before wntering the RN program? I haven't heard of NOC....where is that? OKC? I AM going to do this! Thank u for all your input. I appreciate someone answering!!!!!

I actually have two prior degrees before entering, but they are Business Administration and a Masters in Education so literally they had nothing to do with medicine. My school has a ruberic that shows how they go through the applications and score them. You get so many points for your general bio grade, so many points for having prior degrees, so many points for your paragraph you have to submit on why you want to be a nurse, etc. Total points is 100.

Several people in my class do not have prior degrees. Several not only don't have prior degrees, they don't have any medical experience as well. So I think you would have a good chance at getting in somewhere.

NOC is Northern Oklahoma College. They have a campus in Tonkawa (main campus), one in Stillwater and one in Enid. Their website is www.north-ok.edu

It's an ADN program. They put out really good nurses.
