Just a litlle pick-me-up-- My Story

Published

I am writing my story to perhaps give hope to those who are anxious and are scoring low on assessment tests.

Let me begin by saying that I sat for the NCLEX-RN exam July 10th in Vegas and passed in 130 questions.

So my story begins from years back. I have graduated 10 years ago but life got in the way and never had time to study the way I should have. I have failed before and thought to myself that I will never make it. Fast forward to 3 months ago, I was put on leave due to COVID. I immediately jumped and set my mind into NCLEX. I purchased Hurst and UWorld. Hurst for the content and UWorld for the questions. I studied for a month and experienced a lot of lows. I finished the entire UWorld question bank and I was in the 19th percentile. Yes, 19th-- you read that correctly. Anyway, I read all the rationales and made certain that I understood everything. After all that, my assessment showed Low Chance of Passing. So I moved on to the Hurst assessments. There were 4 of them to which I scored low as well. I still almost always read into the questions. Ultimately, my scores were 57/125, 62/125, 62/125 and lastly 52/125. The last assessment I did the night before I was to sit for my test. So imagine the horror! I am finding that I get really anxious when I sit there to "pretend" that I'm sitting for the NCLEX. I went to the test feeling very uncertain but I know that I really studied and I was determined to pass. Prayers really helped as well. I overcame my fears and here I am giving back to those who are feeling down in the dumps.

Just know that there is no feat too big. You can be who you want to be if you put your heart into it. Take that big leap and just go for it! You absolutely got this ;D

Thank you for this post! I sit down for my boards in 2 days originally had it scheduled in August but decided that I am ready.. I think..Haha.. my UWorld percentile was 58th I believe..

58th...what??! No, you got this. Read the choices carefully because they can be tricky. Good luck and Rooting for you!

What were your impressions of the exam, did it compare to UWorld in anyway? Any tips or advice? I sit for my exam next month, and a few of my cohort mentioned how vague the questions are.

Hello there! I thought the exam was fairly easy. It can be tricky and vague but if you have a pretty solid understanding of the rationales on UWorld, then you will do great. They will word it differently and use some words that will throw you off so read carefully. Practice a lot of questions so you get comfortable with it. Don't worry about the percentile ranks and be patient with the rationales. You will succeed when doing so.

Believe in yourself. I wish you the best of luck!
