:monkeydance: Hi to everyone and thanks for great info, tips and advice on here.

i live and work in UK. want to relocate to british comlumbia early next year. done the registration thing and have received a letter from CRNBC stating that i am eligible to write exams.. . my only problem now is getting a job. i have sent my cv to providence health, VCH, fraser Health and northern and interior health but still waiting. I work in hiv outpatient is their any demand for nurses out there?

I had a telephone interview with Viha but did not mention I will be relocating with my children 8 and 2yrs..(no one asked) can i inform the manager who interviewed me about my plans? or better to wait for job offer? i have family in BC who are willing to help with childcare till i'm settled. comments/suggestions will be appreciated.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

There is a need for outpatient HIV-clinic nurses in BC, especially the lower mainland, where the more comprehensive services are available.

Your employer really doesn't need to know that you have children. It won't make any difference to the amount of relocation money they give you or don't give you and it's illegal in Canada to discriminate on the basis of having children... The onus would be on you from the beginning to provide for your children, and you have family willing to help out so there's really no problem.

St. Pauls is part of Providence Health and is in the West End of Vancouver. They do a lot with the HIV programmes.

VIHA doesn't care about your family, only if you've got a pulse and a valid nursing permit.

Like Jan said, employers over here don't care about kids. Individual unit managers after you are hired might be flexible. But they expect you to have your childcare covered and they don't want to know about your problems when they arise.

thank you to fiona59 and janfrn

thanks guys for advice I'll wait till i get job offer before i mention the children. I hope soon...i have done lots of research on nursing in nanaimo despite some negative info on some forum (BC) i am confident it will be a good move.

I have mailed my resume to st pauls but still waiting for someone to call...its their loss anyway:monkeydance:

Nanaimo is a nice little town. Are you looking into the hospital or some of the nursing homes?

Schools on Vancouver Island can be really hit or miss we found out. If you enjoy rain, you'll like it.

If your family are on the mainland, you have to factor in the expense of the ferry both ways. And it isn't cheap.

But Nanaimo is a nice town.

if i get offer it will be at nanaimo regional hospital. for a little while i

may stay in the nurses home if they have one. the children will be with

my sister in burnaby. i really want to stay close to place of work and

if i can get childcare for younger child i'll be a happy burnny. oldest will

school in burnaby till I'm settled.

as for the rain, I'll have to get use to it as long as its not very, very cold.

There are no such animals as nurses homes over here.

Why aren't you looking for a job at Burnaby General?

You've got to ferry or floatplane both ways to get to Burnaby from Nanaimo.

It's hard changing schools after you've settled into a new educational system. I remember my parents moving around a lot when they first came over and changing schools was hard on us kids.

There are lots of hospitals around Burnaby. I would try and keep my family together.

Nanaimo is nice but it's the kind of place people are either born into or retire to.
