Just got granted readmission into the RN program and in need of some help!

Published

Ok, so I had to withdraw from my fifth and FINAL semester of nursing school in Feb of this year (2010). I was told that I would get back in when I re-apply for August. BIG FIB! So, I had one more time to apply for this upcoming January and I got back in. I AM SO EXCITED! However, I am terrified. I haven't been in school in a year almost. Since March I've been studying and practicing hundreds of NCLEX questions and drug calculations. I guess I just want to know if anyone has any advice for me. And any websites to view or books to read to help me stay caught up over the holidays? Especially with pharmacology. Any help will be appreciated. I'm just happy to be getting so close to my dream!

You are taking the right steps by reviewing past information, doing test questions, and calculations. You obviously have the drive to continue...just keep up that positive attitude!!! My review book suggestions are Saunders NCLEX-RN and Kaplan. In my last semester the material we covered was respiratory, cardiac, endocrine, renal, starting IV's. Do you know what material you will cover? If so, you could get a jump start by reading up on that specific material in the review book. I used my review book during my last semester before taking tests. Might not hurt to brush up on some A&P stuff and Pharm. Best of luck to you and congrats!!! You have made it this far and you can complete the program and graduate!!!!

Thanks! Last semester for us is ER/ICU/High Risk OB! We did endocrine, renal,IV's, resp, etc. all in 1st and 2nd semester. I just ordered a new book for pharmacology since we don't have a pharmacology class (which is the one downfall of the ADN program)

Specializes in interested in NICU!!.

what! yall don't have a pharmacology class in your program??

anyways- are you just going to do your last semester or do you have to repeat some semesters?

just my last semester.yeah the adn program doesn't have a pharmacology class and there isn't one around i can register to take at this school or a surrounding school. i don't think it's a good idea because we're told that pharmacology is incorporated into all the courses which wouldn't be a problem if that was true! sure we hear a couple of meds every now and then but it's sort of a learn on your own thing. i've bought drug cards and study books for pharmacology. it helps some but not how the teachers want because the most anyone can tell you out our class is the name of the med and the classification, and maybe one or two side effects without having to look it up. however, they have stressed digoixin and lasix on us since 1st semester so those are probably the only two meds that i class really knows! sad, but true.
