Anyone else who got into the fall 2011 MCC program?!!

Hi! I just got the email saying I was accepted into the Fall 2011 program. Do you know anything about what the schedule will be like?

CONGRATS guys!:yeah::nurse::yeah::nurse::yeah::nurse::yeah:

Just wanted to pop in to say that and to ask how long y'all waited?

Congratulations!

I am currently in Block 2 at Mesa and you all will love it. It is an intense program, but at the same time also a lot of fun. I remember being in your shoes last march and how excited I was to finally receive that long awaited e-mail. The Best of Luck to all of you!

As for the schedule, most likely it will be lecture on M/T from 0900-1150 with optional review and math class after lunch. You will be done no later than 13:30 and those 2 classes don't last the whole semester.

Lab/Clinicals are on W/T with lab from 0730 until 1500 and variable clinical hours. I hope this helps.

Thank you for the info!! I'm really nervous but excited at the same time. My time stamp was 8/14/2009 so I waited two years :(. I will have to work still during school so I was wondering about the schedule to see what kind of work schedule I'm going to need to have. Do you have any tips for Block One? Is it really hard to meet the 76% test average? How much studying do you do? Do you like your teachers? Sorry for all the questions!

Thank you for the info patiently waiting!!! I am curious about the questions that courts53 asked as well! I am really nervous to enter this program because I will have to work and I am married with a baby;p It is going to be rough or me, so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Like I mentioned before, the schedule for Block1 is M/T/W/Th. You will be done earlier on Mondays and Tuesdays. 11:50 if you don't take Math and Review, 13:30 if you stay for those classes. Math is one Monday and Review is on Tuesday. Neither class lasts for the whole semester. I think we were don with Math sometime in October if I remember correctly. Review class goes a little longer, until early November I believe. W/TH are your long days. So far lecture tests have been on Mondays, but I guess that could change in the future. There are students in my class who work, some of them full time. It can be done, but it is difficult. A lot depends on what type of student you are. I work part-time, but my hours are irregular and I can't always control when I have to work. It get's pretty stressful when my work hours happen to be during those last few days prior to a test. Having a clear schedule the last few days prior to a test is very helpful. It also helps a lot to do a little every day. Go over your lecture when you get home or at least by the end of that week. Don't wait until the last moment. If you do, you will be overwhelmed. There are a lot of additional assignments, especially in Block 1. They are not difficult, but they require time, so you need to allow time for those as well. I tape my lectures and listen to them when I walk or clean house or drive in the car. I find it very helpful, but not everyone learns the same way. The instructors are wonderful and very supportive. Their door is always open and they truly want to help you, so no worries there. It's an amazing experience and don't let anyone tell you different. Yes, it's stressful and there is a lot of reading and learning, but at the same time it's enjoyable and you truly learn so much. I can only speak for myself but I can honestly say that my experience so far has been a very positve one. Be sure to find yourself a buddy or join a study group. The emotional support that person or persons can give you is very important and helps to keep you sane. Don't worry about studying ahead. Just review your A&P material. The one class I would recommend taking prior to nursing school if you get the chance is Patho. I didn't and I wish I had. It helps a lot to understand the body systems and how the function before you learn the different disease processes. If you google MCC itunes there are audio and video lectures posted for Patho and they are very helpful and informative. Just listening to those will give you a much better understanding. You will need that for sure starting in Block 2. Well, I hope this is helpful to you. Feel free to ask more questions. I remember what it felt like to be in your shoes and I like to help if I can.

Thank you SOOO much patiently waiting!

I have heard good things about Mcc, I actually work at scottsdale healthcare and was on the employee list for Scc and got in last January but I defered for 2 reasons 1. my baby 2. I wanted Mcc more and I had them as my first choice:) So I am really excited to go there!!

Where do you do your clinicals at??

Thank You verrry much!! I appreciate all the advice and tips! :) I will be taking Bio 202 this month. Do you think that will help? or should I still try to take Patho? Maybe we can be study buddies Azgirl! :idea:

Hi Courts53

Do take all of your pre and co-reqs before starting nursing school if you can. You don't want to have to take those while in school or during your breaks. If you have time left take Patho. You can even take it between Block 1 and Block 2 if you happen to start in Jan. Otherwise you only have a month between semesters and I am not sure if Patho is offered during winter break. Having the knowledge of 202 will be very beneficial to you. Those classes all build on each other. Try to really understand the content you are studying and don't just memorize info for the tests. You can still get away with that in A&P but don't be tempted to take advantage of it. You will need to recall that information again down the road in NS.

Thank you so much for replying so nicely to all my questions!! I appreciate it. I work full time and alot of times do end up memorizing things for tests instead of really learning them for the long haul. I will be cutting my hours back for NS. I want school to be my main focus. From what I've heard and seen it seems like sooo much stuff to do and memorize and understand. I was so excited to get in and then got really nervous. :( Did you feel like that also? Once you got into a routine did it get easier to manage? I also keep hearing how different the test questions are from the tests in your co reqs. What helped you to understand the different testing style? Sorry for all the questions again.
