It's been said things arent always what they seem to be but things have got me thinking hmmmm. My assessment of nursing so far is that the main concern is to just get the work done! Cut corners..do what you have to ... we dont care.. just get the work done.....if you screw up that is your butt on the burner all by yourself but if all is smooth...all is well.
Ive summed it up and I could be wrong. You can be given 30 pts, 40 pts even if you dont get done you get to hear a bunch of crap about why did it take you so long. Well duh... Really no one wants to hear WHY youre not done in 3 hours the first med round, they just want the work to get done! ..........new nurse or not.
Guess what Dorothy youre not in kansas anymore.

where are you working that you have 30-40 pts?? are you in a ltc facility?? if that is the case then you should really consider going into another area of nursing, i dont think i would want to have 30-40 pt's on my hands and feel safe about it. fortunately, the max pt. load i can have at my facility is 7 and that gives me enough work to last throughout the night!!! God bless you!

I work in LTC and take care of 30 patients. I have seen what it means to "get the work done." I've seen nurses sign off on treatments, assessments, and checks without actually doing it! "The work" is done on paper. The actual patient is acknowledged if they're not found dead by the CNA.
Wow just 7 patients!!! I would love that, what type of facility is that? Yes it is LTC. Im getting the experience here then I know I need to move on. It's closer to 30 but sometimes between 30 and 40. I am considering another area too because it is just too much.
