Depends on the program. Many people in my current program have only had basic chemistry and no exposure to organic. Anyway, I earned a 'B' in my organic class and was accepted to both schools where I applied.

There is so much talk about taking o-chem. Are you all taking an introductory course? The prerequisites for the o-chem class offered at my university include a semester of introductory chem, and full year of general chem. The prereqs go even farther for a biochem class. That requires a full year of o-chem, making a whopping 2.5 years of chemistry prereqs! The advanced physiology class is the same. They told me that my nursing A&P wasn't a sufficient prereq for their class. They said that I'd have to take a year of biology and a semester of pre-med A&P to even be considered for advanced physiology. I just can't see nursing students or RNs completing all of the prereqs in order to take a class like o-chem or advanced physiology.

I can only hope that the colleges I apply to will understand.

I got a B in o-chem, don't remember a word of it.

I'm more concerned about the C+ the second semester of A&P. I had personal issues, blah blah blah, I know admissions committees won't want to hear that. I'm considering retaking the second semester, it would serve me well in CRNA school as well as making me a more attractive candidate, BUT it would be very hard to coordinate with my work schedule.

I had one bad grade on my entire transcript, my second organic chem for personal reasons. I think if you have only that one blemish and the rest of your transcript is fine, then that bad grade is not indicative of your usual grades. You should ask the director, making them aware that you're available to retake if needed. My friend retook a physiology course during the semester he applied, interviewed, and was accepted. So basically they want to see that you're trying really hard to get in and will do anything. A C isn't that bad if you have A's in everything else.

I have mentioned this before, but in my first few years of college, I had too good of a time and it landed me a 2.0 GPA and I got kicked out of school for a semester on academic probation. That actually helped me to focus and actually show up to classes. My diploma grades were good and my BSN were better. When it came time to apply to CRNA school, no one cared that I was a goof-off 15 years ago! I got in to all 3 schools I applied to even though I had to submit transcripts that are just pathetic!

My point, don't worry about a C in O. Chem as long as your other grades are good. Go ahead and apply to school. Best of luck.

Heh heh...... I failed o-chem the first time I took it and got a D+ the second time. Guess I had too much fun the first college I went to as well. I got a 3.9 in my nursing program though, and I got into anesthesia school. I had to explain my previous poor grades in my interview, but then I also pointed out how much improvement I had shown as well since my first college.
