Just been accepted to Community College of Philadelphia Nursing Program

Published

I just received my letter in the mail yesterday telling me I have been accpeted to the CCP Nursing Program. I am sending my deposit out today because I always seem to forget about those types of things. Is there anything else I should know or expect? I don't start until September 2010, but it seems much more real today than yesterday. I know I have a while yet, but I am feeling a little anxious already. I really want this a don't want to mess it up. Any Words of Wisdom?

I got accepted into both CCP, and into Aria Health Hospital School of Nursing. I've heard both good things and horror stories about both places and trying to decide. I'm leaning towards AHHSON right now, because I heard that CCP has a lot of online classes in it's curriculum, which I'm not good with...and AHHSON also takes the top % of the class and offers them 3-year employment contracts right after graduation. In this economy, that was a no brainer for me. Any thoughts?

I'm not taking any online classes at CCP for my ASN. That may be an option for students but it is definitely not a requirement. I know that online learning isn't the best learning strategy for me so I would not opt to take any exclusively online classes.

My question to you would be what degree are you going to end up with from Aria? If it is just a hospital program, even if you come out with an RN, you may end up going back to school to get at least your ASN anyway, so why not just go for it now? I know that eventually I want to get my BSN, but I am getting started with my ASN while keeping my end goal in mind. I will probably go to Temple U to finish my BNS because that's where I got my BA so I already have all of the core requirements done.

I would just ask yourself where you want to end up in your career? Depending on where you want to work or what aspect of nursing you want to focus on, what route makes the most sense to you keeping in mind what you are physically capable of doing? Is money a factor, or time?

I would also not automatically accept things that people tell you about certain programs. Go and look up the program and see if their info is right or not. All of the program's websites have helpful info and numbers of advisors who are willing to answer questions. My advice is to look at as many programs as you can that meet your personal needs, and start calling them and going on visits and tours. Good luck!!

The people who told me that CCP had required online classes, were in the RN program. Maybe I misunderstood them or they themselves were mistaken.

I definitely want my BSN, as soon as possible. Money is not really a factor but time is, I'm an older student going for a career change.

Aria offers an ASN from Penn State along with the Diploma in Nursing. I will also already be getting an AS in CST from CCP at the end of this semester also.

As for my career path, I want to work in Emergency and Acute care. I agree that I need to ask around, and well, that's why we're all here on this board.

thanks!

I'm a CCP grad. CCP doesn't have required online classes, but portions of the nursing classes are delivered online. There really is only 1 nursing class each semester, 7 credits each. The seminar portion of the class is given online and in person. Its not the same as other online classes, though. Even though the content is online, the teachers are all the same teachers that you see in lecture and clinical so its not technically "distance" education, if that makes sense.

The advantage I would think that Aria offers is the association with the hospital. That will help you come graduation time. I know they only hired their nursing students as new grads this past year. Of course things could change by the time you graduate, but still you would have the advantage.

I don't think the decision should really be based on ASN or diploma. Either one will get you into an RN-BSN program, and since you already have an ASN, you won't really get any extra credits to transfer. So it will really come down to which program you feel most comfortable in. I can say that CCP faculty are awesome, we had a decent pass rate for our class (89 or 90%), the school itself is a mess, but the department is pretty close knit and supportive, and I would guess it is cheaper than Aria, though I don't know for sure.

That has always been my problem with CCP and is the reason why I passed on their nursing program. I took a couple of pre-req coures there and my experience was horrible...you can never reach anybody on the phone, you're always placed on long hold, and when you finally reach somebody, no one ever knows any answers and they end up transferrring you or referring you to somewhere else....so frustrating!!...so you end up having to go down there, but there long lines everywhere!! some of the staff workers are rude and always have an attitude....I chose to apply to Abington and Roxborough and got acceptoed to both....Abington's NCLEX scores are in the solid 90's for the past 3-4 years..and have you seen Roxborough's?...they acheived a 100% first past rate last year....the only one to acheive that in the entire region!!!

Can somebody please help me what kind of question are on the aht??? Can you please provide some example? thank you
