Has anyone heard back from UCH regarding the July 2010 new grad program? I haven't received any information regarding my application. I know they are contacting applicants for interviews starting this week, but I was curious if anyone has been contacted at all.

I haven't heard anything, either. A friend of mine got an email today for an interview in Critical Care at UCH. I think they must have been a bit behind, because that is the first I have heard of someone getting an interview (and those things are usually announced loudly on facebook!). Apparently there were 514 applicants for the July start date. I am not holding my breath.
514. really? that's depressing. thanks for the info though. at least i won't take the rejection as personally. do you guys know what the market is like for nursing homes for new grads around there?
It is very depressing. I applied to the one PSL job that was taking new grads as well, and that nurse recruiter rejected me within 12 hours and said he had 250 applicants for one job, so he went ahead and hired an experienced nurse.
I have even seen some nursing homes that are asking for a year of experience. Crazy. One of the gals that graduated in December got a nursing home position in Longmont. I know December grads did have some luck after they passed the NCLEX. One at Med Center of Aurora, one at DH, one at Swedish, one at Porter, one at St. A's, one at St. Joe's. We will get a job someday. We just may have to wait tables in between. Are you guys at UCD?
hey... thanks for the info. i'm not at UCD. i'm actually in ohio, but my plan was to get my degree and move to CO. in fact i was accepted into regis's accelerated BSN program two years in a row, but decided to complete it in ohio instead because it was cheaper. i wonder if i should have done my schooling in denver... might have given me a better chance at getting a job. i was really hoping to get into the nurse residency program. i am shocked by how competitive it is out there.
i am willing to work in long term care. but i don't even know if i will be considered without nursing experience. even here in ohio, the only jobs that are really available are in nursing homes. and i might as well have gotten an LPN for that. i might have to stay here another year and hope to get some experience before moving out there. good luck to you. i know how frustrating this is.
Well, I heard a little rumor about the residency program. It is just a rumor, but if it is true it may benefit you. Apparently, they like to hire either people who work as ACPs (nurse interns) for them or people from out of state. So, there is at least one positive! Good luck to you as well. They say they anticipate the market here opening up a bit in about a year. Just keep looking on all of the websites. I think I would really rather wait tables or work in a bank than work in a nursing home, to tell you the truth. I also heard another rumor that a nurse recruiter at one of the major hospitals said they pretty much toss any applications with LTC experience on them. They kind of feel that those nurses are tainted or something.
So, I wanted to update you on what I heard through the grape vine. The only units that have contacted for interviews are the adult critical care units. Internal medicine, neuro, ortho, cardio, NICU and birth center have not contacted anyone for interviews (supposedly). So, I guess don't give up hope yet!
well, that's good news i guess. it would be nice to know one way or another. my first choice was critical care though, so that's not good. my other 2 choices were med/surg and oncology.

Hey everyone! I received an invitation to interview last week with the ICU panel on June 4th. Does anyone have any interview tips or what I should expect? Anyone already completed the new grad program have anything to say about it?
Well, I didn't even get an offer of an interview, but one of my friends interviewed with the ICU panel. She put together a portfolio (I don't know if you had to do one for school, but we didn't) and they were really impressed by that. Also, practice your interview answers and get someone to do a mock interview with you. Hope that helps!
