Juggling two part time jobs, is it unrealistic?

Published

My fiancé is laid off indefinitely, we are not sure when he will be able to go back to work or find work. I have a part time 24 hour evenings position right now, and I'd like to be able to pick up another 24 hour evening position at another hospital (which I have been offered). This means working every weekend, and trying to work out both schedules each month, which I know that won't be easy. Has anyone else tried this and been successful? The opposite experiences shared would be beneficial as well. Thanks!

Wow - that sucks. Although it is a common occurrence these days, job loss is hard to deal with, especially if it was unexpected.

I would caution you against juggling 2 part time jobs if they both require a specific scheduling requirement. It would be much better to get a PRN job or work contract/agency to supplement your income. Otherwise, you run the risk of conflicting obligations between 2 employers. If one of your jobs is PRN, you will be able to flex it around the required commitment of your PT job. Be sure to talk to your current manager/employer -- let them know you are looking for additional work. There may be additional opportunities to pick up extra hours that you don't know about. You may even be able to transfer into a full-time gig if they have an opening.

Best of luck to you & hugs for your fiance.
