Joint Commission choose me...question!

Published

Yesterday The Joint Commission came to the hospital and I was one of the lucky ones they choose to follow and ask questions to for like 45 minutes! I had to give a "tour" around our unit and explain how things are done and where things are. They also reviewed one of my patient's charts. I'm wondering, is QPM an acceptable abbreviation? The guy who was following me made a note of it and said he needed to look it up and see if it is an acceptable abbreviation. I know it's kinda silly, but this has really been bugging me and I can't seem to find the answer online. I looked on the Joint Commission website and only found a list of unacceptable abbreviations and it wasn't on there. Anyone know?

QPM- Questions per minute from the admin types, like JCAHO. Not to exceed1-2 for more than an hour. Yep, that's it.

so if a medication is given QPM what time is it given?

I've seen Q PM plenty of times. It means every evening, so it would be given earlier than the HS meds. Usually around 1700 or 1800. I think if it isn't on the "do not use" abbreviation list, JC can't "ding" you for it. Not that everything they do is common sense...

is an order that states "Lantus 20 units SQ QPM" ok to be given either at 8pm or 5pm?
