Johns Hopkins University (JHU) MSN-E Fall 2019

Published

Hey Everyone,

I started my application for JHU's Spring 2019, but passed the July 1st deadline. Therefore, I decided to just go ahead and submit once the next application cycle opens on the 15th of August--it is for Summer 2019 and Fall 2019 cohort!

Is anyone taking the GRE?

Hello!

I will also be applying for the fall semester. I am planning on taking the GRE, mainly because I'm applying to a couple of other schools that require it. I know that they don't look too heavily at the GRE scores though, so I wouldn't worry about it if you aren't planning on taking it!

Hey @mlb1711! YAY!

I wasn't planning on taking it. I was lurking on older threads, it seems as though JHU used to require the GRE. I guess lucky for us!

Hey! I was accepted to the Fall 2018 cohort but I deferred a year so I will be starting in the Fall of 2019. If you guys have any questions I can try to help. Otherwise I know there are a few pages on Facebook for past, present and future JHU nurses and the fall 2018 class has a page where people are asking a lot of questions/getting answers! :)

Hey, what's your take on the tuition part of the process and if it's worth the money. I am having second thoughts about applying but mainly because the tuition seems so high. Although JHU is such a good school, I would hate to spend all my income paying back student loans. Thnx, looking forward to hearing from you.

Is the Nov. 1 deadline application for both Summer and Fall cohorts or are there 2 separate applications? Asking for a friend of mine who is interested in starting ASAP. (I was recently admitted for Spring 19!)

From what I have been told.. the summer/fall refers to programs other than the Entry-MSN. The Entry-MSN program has semester starts only in the spring and the fall.

The applications are rolling deadlines- the deadlines listed are usually priority deadlines for the particular semester you see it listed under. For example, I submitted my application for the fall 2018 semester start by Nov.1 in the fall of 2017 and I had a response over my current school's winter break. I know there were people who applied to the same semester start during December 2017/January 2018 and found out at a later date whether they would be admitted for the same starting semester.

I think the tuition is a different level or burden for each individual. How I see it, it is a hefty bill on the front end.. but the value of a JHU degree in nursing is invaluable.

I have called/skyped with a few different nurses in hospitals across different parts of the country about what a degree from JHU vs another reputable program vs an nursing program not as well known. Many of the responses have been that JHU really teaches their nurses how to adapt quickly to many different situations and some other new nurses may take more time to adjust. They have also said that getting a degree from JHU shows that a nurse can handle a very difficult degree and shows they can think on their own. (I feel like you can show that in other ways too personally)

Overall, I feel like the tuition does seem steep, but worth it. Especially because there are loan repayment options through the government and some employers will help with loan repayment as well. But that perspective is solely based off my current financial situation at the moment and I could never tell you what is best for you.

Did you take your prereqs through JHU or elsewhere?

krobinson219,

I completed my prereqs at a different school.

I received a mail from Johns Hopkins today and I got so nervous... but it was a Christmas card lol

LOL.... same here! It was such a tease. By the way, this day next week for last year's cohort, they received their decisions so let's hope for some good news (crossing my fingers)!!
