Johns Hopkins Hospital Nurse Residency Program 2018

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hey guys! Any applicants with impending interviews or recent offers with The Johns Hopkins Hospital? I've got an interview coming up and would love to open a dialogue with anyone else who's in a similar position. If anyone can share any information regarding the interview, shared time, culture at JHH, etc that'd be great even from folks that completed their clinical or externship rotations there. Any current nurse residents at JHH also feel free to chime in please :) I'm applying from San Diego and I graduate in May. Good luck to everyone!

Do you guys know if you have to have your license prior to applying or will they interview as long as you have an ATT?

Specializes in Anesthesia.
Hi I have an interview in two weeks for the new grad residency program. Do you have any tips from your interview? Did you wear your scrubs the entire time or did yoU change?

I wore professional attire for the formal interview (1:1) and then they had me change for my share time. As far as information regarding the interview, it was definitely more of a conversation for me. The questions were very standard new grad RN questions - primarily behavioral-based. Definitely be prepared to talk about why you became a nurse, a time where you had a conflict with someone (superior or coworker), example of teamwork, what you're most proud of, why this unit/hospital in particular, etc. They didn't ask me clinical scenario questions.

I applied, interviewed, and received a job offer 2.5 months prior to graduation, so you don't need to have your license until your supposed start date.

Hey guys! I'm not getting any help from the recruiters so I figured I'd see if any of you knew the answer! Do you know how to make the new employee occupational health appointment?? I called the office and they told me I had to go through nurse recruitment... I was going through my email and it said we would get a "self-schedule" link... Did anyone receive this or make their appointment yet??

Hey a_r0396! I'm so sorry I keep forgetting to let you know, but I also accepted a position with the NICU! My start date isn't until October 1st, but I would love to stay in contact with you during the process :)

Hi there! I am moving to Baltimore to start in August in the Nurse Residency program on the ortho/trauma floow. I am hoping to live in Federal Hill but I agree the apartments are expensive to live alone. I am looking for a roommate if you would be interested in talking to see if we'd be a good fit!!

Hey Claudia!

I know this is super late but I'm moving to Baltimore in a couple weeks for an August 6th start date. I'm looking to sign a lease in the next week but if you're still looking, I'd love to talk about potentially being roommates!

I literally just made an account to reach out to other people who'll be in my cohort! I'm starting on August 6th too, in the CVPCU!

Hi all! I know I'm late to this bandwagon... I just applied for an opening posted July 12. Any insight on to when I should hear back/possible program start date?? Some other job posts specify an October cohort but the CVSICU doesn't specify

They start new grad cohorts approximately monthly. The next one is 8/27 (all of the deadlines for the 8/6 start date have passed). After that, the next two start dates are 10/1 and 10/29.

Hi everyone. I was wondering if someone could clarify something for me. I applied for a new grad position and found that my application was "forwarded to department for consideration" and I also got a link to put in my references. Is this the normal sequence for those who have been invited for interviews and have gotten offers? Or did you guys interview first and then submit references? I am just a bit confused because I'm not sure what it means!

I got two emails. In the first email the recruiter introduced herself and explained that she would like to invite me for an interview, provided a brief summary of the all day schedule for the interview, requested that I reply with 5 dates that I was available to "spend the day at hopinks" and informed me that I would be receving a second email regarding references. The second email went into detail about the reference process. It seems like you only received the second email. I would contact the recruiter because there was prabably an error in sending the "invite to interview" email, they might think you received both.

But to answer your question, I was asked to submit the skillsurvey references before the interview.

Thanks so much tiff_RN18!!!

Hi all! I will be graduating my BSN this upcoming May and I plan on applying to some pediatric nurse residency programs and JHH is at the top of my list! If those who were offered a position don't mind sharing, what type of credentials did you have and what advice would give to someone who will be applying? Thanks in advance :)
