I have been a nurse for three years. Throught sweat, blood, and tears I lasted those three years in LTC. I recently moved to the area and applied to some positions at Hopkins because I heard they are always hiring and they say 1-2yrs of nursing experience. I received an automatic response today saying this:

[TD]Dear *****,
We appreciate your interest in the registered nurse opportunities at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
We are currently accepting applications for nurses who, over the past 12 months, have been practicing full-time in an acute care hospital. Upon review of your application, it was noted that you do not currently meet this requirement.
We are always enthusiastic about nurses who choose to practice at an academic medical center like Hopkins and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to again review your resume once you have gained 12 months of acute care experience.
I look forward to receiving a new application from you and thank you for your continued interest in employment with The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
My very best regards,

Sigh, thinking it is such a huge facility how can they make such a blanket statement?

Don't get too down about Hopkins lol. I recently got a rejection letter from them too, only I am a new grad RN. Where are you located in MD? If you have your heart set on working in Baltimore I would suggest Medstar hospitals or University of MD medical centers. Sadly, I feel that acute experience is all that matters to SOME of these hospitals, and that isn't fair to those who gained their experience elsewhere.

Mercy Medical Center hires oodles of new grads so I would think you'd get right in with your experience. It's where I went following 2-3 years of LPN/RN experience in same field.
Thanks guys, I live in Mt. Washington area but am willing to commute but not too far. I heard nice things about Mercy but it does not seem they have much open positions at this point. I will try these other places, also at a disadvantage without my BSN.
There is a nursing job fair on Thursday at Martin's West in Woodlawn. A lot of hospitals will be there. Maybe you should check it out, so that way you can get some positive feedback.
I am heartbroken I will not be able to attend that conference on Thursday due to a previous commitment that I can not get out of. I do plan on attending the one coming up in October through Nurse.com. I will throw this out there, even though you do not know me from a whole in the wall, but if anyone on these boards hear of particular openings in their units/hospitals please PM me. I will do my due diligence as well.
Don't feel too bad. The same hospitals (and a few other places) will be at the one nurse.com is hosting. For all who are reading, it is on 10/9 at martins west. The event is free, and you can register on site but it is much faster to register online at nurse.com.
As for me, I have all but written this area off. I applied for a position at the VA in Cecil county and they said I was qualified. But I don't know if I will get an interview. I have been getting interviews out of state so I'm praying these opportunities will work out :) I'm not sad about the job situation here, because I knew 2 years ago that it would be difficult to land a job. When I went to a career fair at martins west , the nurse recruiter from northwest hospital told me she had 900 people apply for an RN position.

Try UMMC! They are expanding a few departments!

I am thinking a bit ahead but I am in an ADN program out of state and looking to make the move the Baltimore next June. I am feeling a little discouraged looking at the prospective job market seeing that the majority of RN positions out there seem to be requesting a BSN. Is there any chance of being hired in Baltimore as a new grad with an ADN and no experience other than clinicals during the nursing program??
