Johns Hopkins or Cleveland Clinic CVICU?

Published

I was fortunate enough to have two incredible new graduate nurse job offers. I have Cleveland Clinic CVICU and Johns Hopkins CVICU both main campus. Do you think both of these jobs will open up the same doors for future career growth? Do you think both have the same prestige? Will the learning experience be different at each? Which one would you choose and why?

CCF has the upper hand here since they have been well known for cardiology. Johns Hopkins is phenomenal and that doesn't mean they dont have a great cardiology program but I think you will see and learn more at one of CCF's CVICU's. There are 5 of them at main campus.

Both will open doors down the line. Both are prestigious places to work. Learning experience will probably be a little different as each has their own way of training/teaching.

I think it comes down to what your goals are down the line. Do you want to stay in cardiology? Do you want to get experience and then do travel nursing? Do you have plans for advanced practice nursing?

Specializes in Cardiovascular Surgery.

I'm working in CCF and I have friends working at Johns Hopkins in Cardiology. I will recommend going to Johns Hopkins! Definitely! CCF's nursing culture is well known for terrible.

Specializes in Med Surg, Tele, PH, CM.

I worked at Hopkins - twice. Once in the hospital and again in an administrative position. Hopkins is a top-quality hospital, and if I were seriously ill, that's where I would want to be. However, I always felt that the System did not value me as a nurse, as if I should put up with that treatment in exchange for the "privilege" of working for Hopkins. Many of the nurses who work for them do so long enough to be able to use them as on a resume, then move on.
