John H. Stroger Hospital (cook county)

Published

I am a new grad really interested in trauma nursing and have applied at Cook County hospital on a med/surg floor. My goal is to work my way up to work on the trauma unit. I am hearing different things about getting a job there. Anyone work there currently have some insights on the application process or suggestions in general? Thanks!

Hi, Good luck! I too am applying there, but I haven't received any responses. I was wondering if you are getting any luck?

Never heard back! Disapointed, but ended up getting a job at Evanston Northwestern. I would suggest applying elsewhere....I have a feeling it might be one of those places you need to "know" some one to get a job. Hope your luck is better than mine!

I work at Stroger and am a TNS nurse. My advice is to keep trying. You now have to go downtown to the county building (city hall) to apply. We have changed some management and hiring policies...you won't get into trauma going through med-surg...try the ED or an ICU...float or sign up for OT in trauma..(we are down about 18 positions)...see if you like it, then apply. I applied and was hired immediately about three years ago...after being hired and told to quit my job, I got a call saying that I needed to find another job because there was a hiring freeze. I had asked for and recieved an job offer letter...so after a call to an attorney and then Stroger...I was hired and started on the date of my letter and went through hospital orientation as the only orientee! Be careful...make sure they put everything they tell you in writing and keep trying. I am almost done with my MSN/MBA and they paid the whole $40,000...my insurance is like $8.00 a pay period....and there is the pension if you choose to stay. Keep trying!
