John C Lincoln/Mayo Hospital

Published

What can anyone tell me about these hospitals? I just took a position with John C Lincoln in their labor department. Been there a week and it seems okay. What I really want is to get on at the Mayo Clinic or hospital but have put several apps in and not gotten called. Mayo is closer to my home.

Specializes in post surgical, tele, icu.

mayo seems to be ultra selective as to who they accept. If it's still your goal then just do well at JCL and reapply.

Unfortunately, Mayo doesn't do labor and delivery. From what I understand, to be hired at the clinic you need to first get through the nursing hiring process and then be approved by department physicians. It's not as bad as it sounds. And as always, it helps to know someone on the inside. I think the clinic works 40 hr weeks and pays slightly less than floor nursing at the hospital.

One of the best ways for new grads to get into Mayo Hospital is to do an externship or clinical there. Still, they're very selective.

Mayo has been snail mailing things about every 2 months about nursing open houses and come apply for a job. Although I have enjoyed being a patient there, I would never consider working there. All white - BLECH. Management uptight - BLECH. I like to have some fun at work and I don't think Mayo would approve of that.

I hear you about the all white. There are a few departments like ED, PACU, Periop, and ENDO that have their own colors.

On the bright side, the floor nurse-PT ratios are 1:4 and the benefits are great. I think they self insure the medical benefts and offer a pension of 2% of your salary per year of service in addition to 40x-k. During the slow months of summer they offer employees and their immediate family members plastic sugery at a 50% discount. I guess they want surgeon fingers to remain nimble.
