As one poster stated the the "sticky above is waaaayyyy out of date!" LOL! Well, that is true. The information is useful though. But jobs in the Atlanta job market are hard to fine. I am in school working on my 5th degree (MSN) and I am focusing on recruitment, retention and work environment for nurses. And my impression of the Atlanta market right now is a whole of smoke without any fire. I have personally applied to many positions here in Atlanta for advertised positions and there has been no response. Thinking that the problem has to be me I have also asked a lot of friends and acquaintenances to do the same. Same result. Our conclusion is that hospitals are posting job openings, collecting resumes but not even bothering to respond to the applicant. Internet applications seem to be the main interface.
So, how is the job market in your part of Georgia for RNs?
Florida on the other hand, particularily south west fl is hot! They are hiring nurses left and right. HCA is a big player down there and they appear to be motivated to hire nurses. Tampa seems to be the epicenter. We all have Georgia on the mind but Florida may be what feels our wallets.
Hopefully a lot of you will respond to this post. If you know of a Georgia hospital that is hiring please tell us about it! Thanks!

Research! Research!! especially HCA's. (just an example of one's nurse exp.)
We have 1million unemployed here. They are not hiring new grads.. shoot folks(RN or LPN) with 1 yr or more experience are not obtaining jobs. Good luck in your job hunt.
I was told GA had jobs. I look at each region to check for job growth.
It says in your profile "Suncoast," where is that exactly? All of Florida? Fortunately for RNs, the high percentage of unemployment is in blue collar jobs, primarily related to construction and it related support systems. Healthcare on average according to Healthcare Finance News is a positive gain. The slow down in nursing jobs is coming from less nurses retiring or working less shifts. And hospitals are hring less nurse by increasing patient to nurse ratios. That is why you are having demonstrations by nurses for passage of the patient protection act. Nursing jobs are coming back fast in FL per most reliable sources however working conditions are suspect.
I live in the Tampabay area. If you search on allnurses, you see new grads to experience nurses looking for jobs.
Rightnow, Fla nurses are rallying for better patient ratios. Again, I say Research! Research!
I'm not trying to deter folks from moving here. Florida is a different beast of a state. Just research before jumping into pot..

The nurses who are unemployed here. Why are they unemployed? Some nurses only want hospital jobs or specific hospitals jobs such as ED, NICU. Some are new grads. Hospitals do not want to hire new grads per the cost of training. There are training program to reorient nurses who have stepped out the field. There are plenty of LTC's.
Florida relies on tourist to fill the coffers. If the tourists/snowbirds are not coming down, they are not in the clinics, urgent cares or hospitals. With so many unemployed, it means the unemployed folks are not utilizing their drs or other medical services.. it's trickle down situation.
There are whole alot of reasons that nurses do not have jobs. Hopefully what you wrote is true.. Jobs are coming back to Fla in a whole. Hopefully, Florida will find other means of bringing stable income.. Not oil rigs off the Gulf of Mexico.
Why are nursing jobs scarce in GA?

I am a nurse re-entering the field after being away for 9 years. I have completed a re-entry course and applied to the unit where I did my preceptorship. Had 3 interviews only to be told no thanks we want someone with more recent experience. I have my MSN and was a PNP and I can't get hired. I have even applied at places where I have been previously employed with no luck. I have never had this much rejection before. I am starting to take it personally. I am glad to hear that maybe it's not me but the market.
