Jobs in Florida Panhandle

Nurses General Nursing

I am a new grad RN, and I have been looking for a job in the Florida panhandle, without much success. Does anyone around here have any advice or know of a place they actually hire new RN's in the area? I moved here a few months ago from KY, so I don't have the benefit of a local nursing instructor to help point me in the right direction. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Where exactly in the Panhandle are you looking? I know the hospitals in the Pensacola area typically have positions for new grads (Sacred Heart, Baptist and West Florida).

I am in Destin, but I've been sending in resumes to hospitals from Pensacola to Tallahassee. I haven't heard back from most of them, and the ones I hear from say "Sorry, none of our positions fit your qualifications at this time". I know they want a year's experience, but how are we supposed to get experience if no one will hire us?

I am sure the problem is that the nursing grads that performed their clinicals at that particular hospital have the inside track. Many of the hospitals have nursing recruiters (and are listed on their website). I would contact them and try to set up a meeting. I feel like when you respond to jobs on-line they fall through the cracks. If you can get some face time with these recruiters then you are no longer an "outsider". I would call and introduce myself and just go for it....I was calling to schedule a time that you could meet with me to talk about programs you have for new nurses. If you can, actually go there....offer to buy them lunch. You kind of have to be aggressive. Something will come along...maybe the delay is just getting the right job.

Yeah, I think I'm going to try to visit some hospitals next week. Thanks for the ideas. I guess I was just getting discouraged.:)

Just curious how it all worked out for you. Were you able to find a job in the Panhandle? My husband is transferring there and I'll graduate soon after and join him. I know it's almost a year later so hopefully you've found something by now!
