I am a NYC RN but I just received my temp CT license so I can start applying to jobs in CT because NYC is just too difficult. I am currently a nurse at a psychiatric group home I have only been working here for 3 months but I feel like I am not learning anything so I want some experience. I wanted to know which hospitals in CT are willing to hire a nurse with not too much experience. Because in NY everything requires 1 year Med Surg, 2 + years its very frustrating.

Honestly, its not better here in CT. We have droves of new grads and/or those with little experience who can't land a position. Its even harder if you are an ADN. The hospitals close to the NY border (Greenwich Hosp, St Vincent's and Bridgeport Hospital are all wanting BSN grads. I know that Greenwich and Bridgeport Hospitals are even putting in their job postings that those with ADNs must have proof that they are already enrolled in a BSN program for most of their postings.) I'm not sure about Norwalk Hospital but I recall when I was looking that they were always putting BSN preferred for most of the positions and required for others.
I can only say, apply and give it a shot.
Thankyou for your reply I have my BSN I noticed Norwalk is so hard to get into their HR worker was telling me if they have a med-surg position that would be the only job I would have a chance of getting hired there. But thankyou so much for the advice and reply I appreciate it because NY is pretty much impossible.

Which area of CT Greenwich, Danbury, Berkshire area?
Largest Mental Health service in the area outside of the hospital probably be Catholic Charity and Ability Beyond Disability. I am sure an not sure what they are hiring now is Family Children Aid in the region in regards to RNs.
As far as hospitals Danbury is a great place for grads they have a program where you work temp/per diem. They have a decent psych unit. I am not sure about Hall-Brooke since St V's went to nurse's having BSN if they require their nurse's to have BSNs. Then there is Greenwich abd Bridgeport Hospital but they are only hiring BSNs.
In New York forgot who Putnam Hospital is part of but not a bad hospital. Also Four Winds and Green Chimney in the Putnam/Westchester County area.
Unfortunately not familiar with the VNA or LTC.
Also forgot to mention Norwalk hospital part of Western CT Health Network has a good psych unit as well.
Don't know much in regards to Stamford. Do know theu remodeled a bit sold their adjacent nursing home out to another organization.
Best of luck in your searches.
Oh yeah if north western CT. Do know their is a large kind of Psych Hospital in the Berkshires kind of oh how could I forget...
Silver Hills in New Canaan kind of a high end psych treatment facility as well.
Best of luck again.
Thankyou so much for all these suggestions I will look into them all I really just want some clinical experience I have my bachelors but I feel like that is not helping me at all with any hospitals. I finally just got approved for my RN license in CT so at least I can try both NY and CT now. CROSSING MY FINGERS!
